I think the title is self explanatory..

I have a eVGA GeForce FX 5200 Video Card 128mb

I have tried using somthing called NHP but i really cant see a visual differance. (NHP enables a overclocking thing in Nvidia properties)

    Thanks in advance.

  2. If that app allows for changing of memory and clock speed, basically what you do is tweak each of them and raise them up, one at a time - slowly - until you notice issues with the vid card. Then scale back a bit, and that's as fast as it's capable of.

What you want to do while seeing how far you can raise it is run something like 3dmark in a loop. It will stress the card nicely. Look for freezing or artifacts and things like that. It will also give you a numerical identifier of your computer's overall performance. CPU and ram will come into play, but since they are not changing you will be able to clearly see the increase in performance of your card because of the overclocking.

I also want to overclock my video card and CPU, but I know absolutely nothing about it. I have an ATI Radenon 9800. Do you need an extra fan just to overclock the card?

i have an AIW 9800 pro, all i know is the card already run's really hot. so overclocking is probably not the best idea. i already have an extra fan blowing directly on the card, still kinda hot for my comfort

  6. You can normally get something more out of it with stock cooling. That's what I'm doing just now. Do a Google search and find out about it, it's very common. I think RivaTuner would suit you best, since CoolBits is nVidia only.

Also, please try not to threadjack. This is only a semi-threadjack, I know.

Just wondering, is overclocking bad for your video card or processor?

  9. It can be, depending on how far you take it. If it is a mild overclock, it shouldn't make much difference to the life of the component. If you are running it right to the very limit (as I do) then your components will be prone to failing early. Would you drive your car to the redline every day, and expect it to last?

Most overclocking is very safe, provided you are sensible about it.
