Thanks for the replies. Actually security is not my problem, it's the CPU load.
I usually browse the web while listening to mp3s so I'm cautious on the integrity of the encoded file after the compression is complete. The cpu load is 100% by the way. The memory doesn't seem to be consumed a lot.
Specs:
Athlon xp 1.8ghz
512mb ddr ram.
Is there a possibility that opening a few browsers while having a few apps on like mp3 players, download managers, etc. be ok and not corrupt the avi being encoded?
My apologies for being vague in my question. -
No problem at all. The encoder doesn't have to have an uninterrupted stream to work from, and doesn't have to write uninterrupted. All that will happen is that your encodes will take a little longer, as the encoder has to share cycles with other apps (which it has to do anyway, as there are lots of background activity going on in Windows). During burning it's another situation (at least was, until "burn proof" and other buffer underrun protection was invented) where the burner has to be fed data in an uninterrupted stream. Heavy disc activity (caused by another application) could make the burner soft have to wait for reading the data from HDD, causing the burner buffer to empty, resulting in a coaster...

Thanks a lot for the reply and the additional info about burning which I'm also wondering about.
