    Hey everyone,

It has been a long time since I have been to the board, so this topic may have been addressed previously. If it has, please link me to it. Anyway, I am getting a DVD camcorder (Sony DCR-DVD301) and I was wondering what the best process to get the footage from the camcorder to my computer for editing in Final Cut Pro might be. I have 10.3 and the newest version of FCP.

    Thanks,
    David

You should buy a DV if you're serious about editing your shot footage. DVD cams create mpeg2 files which can't be edited directly with FCP (and are limited by simple cutting) you must re-encode to DV if you want to use FCP fancy transitions losing quality in the process.

Yeah, I know I should get a MiniDV cam to edit, but if I am going to get this camcorder what should I do to be able to sue the footage in FCP?

You can probably use Lumiere HD (it's mainly used for HDV mpeg2 footage) not sure about that though.

Use Mpeg Streamclip or DVDxDV to export to DV and import into FCP.
