A nice question to the kindly guys of videohelp !
Choosing which media to buy, i saw that there are a lot of disks with same media code but from different brands.
For example "RitekG05" media code is sold by Platinum, Anv, Traxdata, Ridata, Ridisc, Ritek.
The quality of disks is the same for every brand and so I can choose the less expensive, or I have to choose disks like traxdata or ridata to have an acceptable quality?
Am i crazy to buy RitekG05 or this is a good media ?

Thanks to who can help me.

Not an easy question to answer ...and open to debate. Start by checking Lordsmurf's great site on media:

I saw that site but it's not mentioned ritekg05 inside.
In some post in this forum is written that Ridata's ritek are not good as Traxdata'Ritek.
I had not too good experience with ANV disks with PI > 600 and a value of 10% of coasters.
Otherwise i thought i can buy Memorex disks CMC MAG but in www.nomorecoaster.com they appear as waste ones.
    thanks...

Yeah. Not all media IDs are covered on the site, but the general media information is good and it at least gives you a heads-up that there's a lot of counterfeit media out there. He also covers some interesting topics dealing with the dye itself. It makes for a good read

A guy posted here a couple of months ago that he had bought some cheap media that had "8X" splashed all over the outer wrapper, but couldn't write them at that speed. Upon running DVDInfo Pro he discovered that there was no write strategy for 8X ...the discs were 4X. The package was labeled wrong :P

Ritek is a disc manufactorer. They do sell generic (not necc. cheap, just no name) OEM discs, other companies can contract Ritek to make discs for them.

    Think of this....

Maxell, a media company, contracts Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, and of Maxell to make their DVD-R media, and Ricoh to make their DVD+R media, then they also contract Prodisc and Ritek to make their CD media.

All Ritek is, is a media maker, the other companies just brand the media.

According to how much the branding company spends, the quality can be higher. Some like Maxell, with big bucks, would demand the upmost highest quality, so one could assume that the quality would be generally higher.

Ridata, Ridisc, Ritek, Traxdata are said to be of the higher quality, while Platinum, Anv are said to the same if not lower. When looking for Ritek media, stick to the 3 R's, these are Ritek's own brand.

    My question now is,
Is it better to buy Memorex (CMC MAG or Ritek) or Ridata Ritekg05 ?
Here in Europe I'm not sure if Memorex are CMC or Ritek.
    Thanks...

  7. I would not discount using CMC media if it is +R media. I've used a lot of CMC +R media in different speeds and media codes, sold under various brands. They have all worked very well, with PI/PO test results not far behind my RICOHJPN discs and generally better than my Ritek R03 discs. I have only burned one CMC -R disc and it played OK, but the PI/PO numbers were quite high. But all of their +R media has worked great for me. Try a 25 pack of them if you have a good deal available to you and see how they work with your burner. It seems like alot of people that bash CMC discs are just giving the opinion of what they have read without any personal experience using them. I've NEVER had problems with their +R discs, I'm not sure that I can recall ever even burning a coaster with them. I'm trying to stick to RICOHJPN R01 or Taiyo Yuden as of recently for the majority of my burning, but I still will not hesitate to buy CMC +R media if a great deal comes along and I needed discs, so try them out if you have a good deal available to you.

    Some links to read

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=91&page=2&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=30&daysprune=30

The Ritek media is claimed to be pure crap with your LG burner (thanks for filling in that info )

CMC (-R and +R) is golden with the 4120b, so I'd get a small cake of those to try out.

4x Memorex are sometimes Prodisc, which should also have no problems.

  9. I JUST burned this disc, a HP branded CMC MAG R01. It is 2.4x rated media, but I burned it at 4x on my NEC 2500. This is a very typical burn from my CMC discs, using their other +R media codes as well. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, CMC haters

I cannot figure out why I cannot insert the image into the post, I give up.

Traxdata, RiData and Arita are Ritek Brands in Europe. Not Ridisc.

Ridisc is an e-Net brand... I would not buy those 8)

    Thanks for all replies,
Today I bought a cake of Ridata' silver discs 8x dvd-r and a cake of Memorex CMC MAGAE1 THAT ARE DVD-R 8x.
I hope to have a value of PI < of 150 (what I obtained in past).

  13. Good Luck with the Memorex CMCs.

Hopefully you didn't buy it based on my comments, as I specifically said that I had great luck with their +R media, but had poor results with the one -R disc of CMC I burned. Let us know if the -R CMC burns well for you.

Today I wrote CMC MAGAE01 disks of Memorex.
With my LG GSA4120B fw.A111 I had no problem and with kProbe PI AVG is 17.91. In my humble opinion this result can be compare to ones of higher quality disks like Verbatim, TY...
    Bye guys !

RITEKG03, RITEKG04, RITEKG05, etc.... all the same stuff, pretty much. It says RITEKxxx now under 2ND class.

    +++++++

CMCMAG AE 01 is supposedly using MCC dye (but still CMC manufacture methods). Quality tests are inconclusive so far, as it's relatively new. It could drag CMC out of the garbage bin quality ranking.

    It's 8x media.

So far, it seems this is only available in Europe.

Some of the details on this one are a bit sketchy, haven't put a lot of research into it yet.

Why do you think so ?
Have you got any founded reason?

People I trust overseas have had good experiences so far. But it's been a very small test amount.
