Breaking news.....
November 22, 2004
Telecommunication companies are saying that no new DSL accounts will
be activated after November 21st of this year. That means that anyone
who was scheduled to have DSL service beginning on Monday the 22nd
will not be activated.
Phone lines were overloaded at various companies with complaints
from prospective customers.
One man, who wished to remain anonymous, was quoted as saying...
'I am Yoda. The Force is with me. My sabre has been drawn.'
Authorites will only say that the man is 26 and was wearing
a Darth Vader mask.
More to follow.............

Manufacturers of phones will have a huge dance for joy once they can release their new digital optical phones, since everyone is going to want to get into the new system because the sounds and data movement will be so clear and fast. -

That was my point.
You are rambling on about phones, when I was talking about INTERNET connections.
Pulses of light are the future as opposed to electrical current. -

OK....dumb question.
Is DSL faster than the cable modem I had back home? -

Though I don't have to pay as much as cable either :P :P :P

Sometimes...sometimes not. My previous cable package was 1Mb, and could be affected by the number of people in my area who shared it. My DSL is 3Mb, and is dedicated to noone but me. There were other packages with lower bandwidth limits if I chose to, so those would have been slower than cable.

.....cause my cable modem SCREAMED....and I have DSL now....and I occasionally look for a hand crank on the side of my computer...
Oh....DSL is WAY better than any dial-up but.... -

It was expensive....around $40-$50 per month...but DAMN.....don't blink or you'll miss the page loading.

Yoda's right about that. We have Comcast and they forced the cable TV on us in order to get the internet. We pay $60/month and since we have satellite already, the cable TV goes unused :P

AS for DSL vs cable. DSL doesn't congest as much, but it's more expensive to get near the speeds of cable broadband. Cable broadband can get higher speeds than DSL in areas, but most rural areas are only running at 1-3 Megs anyway, so having 10megs, defeats the purpose unless more people are running on the network at those speeds. Broadband companies are also charging for how much bandwidth you have. Someone may only purchase a 512k plan for their cable modem, while another person has a DSL plan at 3Meg. Obviously the person with 3Meg is going to find the internet extremely faster, but they are also paying quite a bit more for their increased bandwidth. But when it all comes down to it, the cost to be connected and running at any of the speeds is all the same to the company. The only difference is the more people running at higher speeds may create heavy traffic. If the company hasn't already upgraded from the money they've been getting from it's customers to allow the higher use, then someone's sticking the money in their own pocket and getting ready to move south of the border.
