  1. Hi Guys!

I have about 20 video clips that I extract from my DVD collection and
I am authoring them with TDA. The final dvd shows that some of clips
are jumpy when there are camera movements (not all, some of them are perfect).

I checked the field order and ALL them are top field first.

I checked the stream using restream and GOPS are like this:

-The jumpy clip is like this: IBPBBPBBPBBPBBP

-The perfect clip is like this: IBBPBBPBBPBBP

Could somebody help me with this? I would like to fix this if possible to avoid re-do everything.

    Thanks for any help.

The GOP Structure has nothing to do with the field order, and assuming your GOP length is compliant then it shouldn't cause jumpy playback. Your field order may be incorrect on some of these clips, however if the original DVDs play ok, and you haven't edited them in any way, then field order is not your problem.

If you do suspect that field order is incorrect on some of these clips then you can change it without affecting the quality of the source. Pulldown.exe can do this but you will have to demultiplex to elementary streams, run pulldown, and then remultiplex.

What are you viewing these files in? It is possible that these jumpy clips are just interlaced and your playback software/decoder is doing a poor job of deinterlacing...that is if you are viewing these on a pc. If its jumpy on your tv then field order does seem more likely.

It seems like there is anothr tool that will do this, as well. I used it once, but I can't remember what is called. You might do a search for field order repair/fix.

Now, I remember. It is called restream.

  5. Hi , thanks for helping... as I said before I have used restream already.

I ripped from DVD and reencoded to lower the bitrate. I reencoded using DVD2SVCD for some (to rip with subtitles) and used aviscript with cce and mainconcept to others.

Do you think pulldown.exe can still help with this.

    Thanks!

If the field order was set incorrectly then you can set the flags to the other field order using pulldown, which would solve the problem.

You can use restream to change the field order, not only to check it.

  8. Thanks!

winifreid, so you mean I must change the field order from those jumpy clips right? If so, I will some clips that are tff and others bff!

Is this normal? I though the field order would have to be the same for all clips.

    Thanks again!

Field order seems to depend upon how the files were created. There is no reason not to try it. Unfortunately, you will have to demux before you change the order, abd then remux afterwards. The good thing is that restream is very fast.

There's no problem with mixing and matching bff and tff footage in the same DVD titleset.

  11. Sorry for so many questions, I am about a year now dealing with digital video and still learning a lot.

Fortunatelly I have the raw material in my HD (I still have all the .mpa and .mpv demuxed).

IŽll give a try to invert the fields and let you know.

    Tkx! :P

  12. Hi guys!

    I have field the clips!

Some of them kept bff and others tff. I used tmpgenc and the deinterlace filter method to find out the correct field.

    Again, THANK YOU!
