OK. I got 4 avi clips of 30 mins each and wanted to convert them into mpeg2 to burn onto dvd. All avi's are same format, aspect etc.
I know the result will be bup, ifo and vob files (i'm still a newbie at converting but know roughly what to expect).
Thing is, once converted into mpeg, i look at my video_ts folder and i get vob_1,bup_1,ifo_1, vob_2,bup_2,ifo_2 and so on.
i made an iso for this dvd and looked at it before i burnt it.
PROBLEM- my 3rd clip was totally out of synch. Not by a few seconds but totally, by minutes. Th subtitles were totally wrong too. the rest of my clips were fine tho.
So i looked at the video_ts folder and saw that the faulty clip had 2 vobss. one i.e. vts_03_1 and vts_03_2 (the others only had one vob)
can someone explain why this happened or how i can fix this problem? i re-converted it all again but same thing, clip 3 received 2 vobs instead of one.
help appreciated
thanks

DVD vobs will be splitted if they are above 1GB, www.videohelp.com/dvd#struct .
If the audio is ac3 or mp3 vbr you might get audio sync problems. Try convert the audio to wav in the video with virtualdub,
open the avi
select direct stream copy under Video
select full processing under Audio
and Save as a new video. The video wont be converted just the audio.
Try convert the new video with dvdsanta.
Or try some other encoders. -
thqanks guys for replies.
I initially did try virtualdub but i got an error message. and being a newbie, i thought eeks! so i went with dvd santa.
ok. so maybe it was dumb of me not to go into gspot and check all of them. I did but assumed all the avi's were the same. but no they not (i realise now). also i realise now that the subtitles do match the video, but the audio is just totally wrong. (about to tear hair out after 3 attempts)
THIS IS GOOD PERFECT ORIGINAL AVI
BAD ORIGINAL AVI (altho if left alone as avi, its perfect!)
i just want to add, i encoded again with DIKO and i dont get 2 vob files now with the bad avi, however the bad synching is still there.
I'm really stumped! i really want this onto disc and watchable. the original avi is perfect tho! I'm merely guessing that because i'm getting sunching problems with converting to mpeg2 dvd, i'll get the same problem encoding to mpeg1 vcd! i cant have them as avi on my pc all the time i wanna be able to watch on a standalone.
thanks guys (i hope the two links above work) -

Ever check out the SLYCK site?
Paranoia does have it's limitations.
