I have a Epson r300 printer. For the last 3 days I have been trying to get my printer working on my pc. It was working on my last machine 2 days ago, but when my mobo went out on me I had to use my back up machine. But I can't get the pc to see it.

I have installed the drivers but when I try to add a new printer it won't add it. Now at first I thought perhaps it was the USB port. So I changed it, then plugged my scanner in the port that my printer was plugged into originally, and the machine detected it fine. Then I thought perhaps it was the USB cable so I bought a new USB cable and plugged it in, still won't see it. I even tried it in Safe Mode but couldn't get it to work neither. So do any of you think the USB connection in my printer is dead?

  2. You said your printer worked fine on your old computer that went out. So hopefully the hardware is all good too and did not get fried like in a power spike or something.

I would try getting the lastest drivers for that printer and OS from the manufactures websites first and try that.

If that didnt work and if it has a lpt printer port Id try hooking it up that way.

Double check all the little things like power and connections.

Something that I have found with printers, turn off the printer and unplug the power. Let it sit for a minute. In the meantime reboot windows. Now plug the printer back in and then turn it back on. Windows should recognize it- this is a fluke that I have noticed happens sometimes.

  4. Unplugging any appliance from wall for a minute should also reset it.

Run the printer self test NOT connected to the computer & see if it works right.

Also, does it have a parl port option?

This can even happen after you have been using the device for awhile, you will have to unplug it to get it working again.

Ok, tried all of your ideas and still won't recognize. I think that I better take my printer back to CompUSA since I have it under warranty. Unless you guys can think of what else it might be.

Have you tried running a self-test on the printer? No use in taking it back if its fine, the next one will just do the same thing.

It wouldn't suprise me. I'm staying away from SP2 for now.
