First off let me say that this problem is rather recent. i have not done any capturing in a while through Final Cut BUT when I go through iMovie everything seems to work. Now though I have to go through final Cut for various reasons.
This is what I am using
1. G4 dual processor running running Jaguar with a gig of RAM and 250 gig designated hardrive just for video
2. Final Cut Pro version 4.0
3. Panasonic Pamcorder miniDV with Firewire capture
Issue
When trying to capture through Final Cut the capture process will only capture 1-2 minutes at a time. It is random and varies. I have gone through all of the Final Cut settings and cannot determine what I am doing wrong.
Thanks as always
p.s. I was thinking of getting the Canopus 100 would this solve the issue?

You may not get many answers as this is a mostly PC forum. You would be wise to mention Mac in your subject title. You might try to find a Final Cut forum on the web to get better info, unless one the the Mac people here can give you any ideas. I have a G4, but I don't use it for capturing.
I can tell you that a ADVC-100 probably won't help much for camera to Mac transfers. It would be good for, say, VHS or live TV to your Mac, if your camera doesn't have passthrough. DV is DV, whether from camera or a ADVC-100.
EDIT: Maybe the mods could move this to the Mac Video forum? Probably would be a better place to post.
