I'm suspicious of the fact they don't list the lead-in data...
I look forward to your report ! -
I recently tried my first 50 pack of Taiyo Yuden with mixed reviews. I found the dvd-r's I made played perfectly on my JVC and Panasonic dvd players. Yet they skipped all over of the place when played on my Sony dvd player ( I have the model that is called a combo dvd/vhs recorder).
The Maxells I've recorded played well on all dvd players.

I'm suspicious too. They don't look expensive at all compared to blankdiscshop.co.uk and os-mediatrade.de.
I'm looking for as well the cheapest place in Europe to buy DVD-R inkjet printable Taiyo Yuden TYG01 or TYG02. These two websites above are the only i've found yet. Any other suggestion ?
Cheers. -
On the price point. SVP is £69 for 100 if you go to supermedia.com then its $78 which is approx £38.
From arndalemedia you are looking at £31 ish for 100. Yes they do look cheap, but arndale might have a better source the SVP who knows. All i know is i'm not paying £69 for 100 from SVP.
GOt comfirmation order is being processed so, so far so good. Not bothered by small problems...

I only have a 4X burner, so i don't mind the 8X speed. Since the prices of these DVD-R are approximately the same, i'm looking for the best dye in matter of compatibility. -
i've used TY for a long time now and they are never cheap and £69 is about the going rate for 100, only a few of months ago you would have expected to pay well over £100.
Be very careful as there is some cheap media doing the rounds that use the TY media code and these are generally the reason for poor results as TY are at the top of the tree when it comes to quality etc. These low quality fake discs have been reported on many forums.
As far as i have found genuine TY are only avaliable in tubs of 100 in the UK or 90 for the old 2x media
http://svp.co.uk/
(aka blankmedia shop)
and
www.jetmedia.co.uk
both sell genuine TY discs
If you do buy some of these cheap £7.99 spindles check the centre of the disc in the first part of the dye inside a narrow ring you should look for a batch code something like this
GG0000XX for 8x media
GD0000XX for 4x media
GB0000XX for 2X media
example:- GD000138 (4x silver inkjet printable)
If its not there i would say they are fakes as every TY disc i've seen has that type of batch code
hope this helps -
anaboland
That helps a lot.
Never used them myself due to high price and the fact i have never had any issues with ritek G04. Trouble now is most manufactures seem to be changing to new dyes and its a bit like starting all over again. Not knowing what the hell is going to be a good disk. Not bothered by small problems...

Do some low quantity tester packs for dvd-r media and i'm sure they do a TY 10 disc sample pack for around £9, this might be useful for you to try them out.
Look in the Dvd printable section.
And i'm sure you will be impressed with the quality and reliability of TY discs -
anaboland, thanks for the head's up but i cant/wont pay them sort of prices for media when they can be had cheaper. If they can sell them statside at 50% of the prce then they can do it here in the UK. Just wish i had asked my mate to get me 100 TY's when he was stateside the other week. Dont mind paying a bit of a premium on quality but not that much.

iooi, don't you know? When selling the same products in the US and the UK the sellers use the exchange rate of $1 = 1 pound. Dunno where they get that from, since it's more like $0.55 = 1 pound, but what can you do?
-
it's depressing i know. The exchange rate is really good at the moment
but the inflated prices apply to every thing form your BigMAc meal to your Levis and Nike, and just about anything you compare. But its partly down to supply and demand, whereas UK(small country) distributors might order thousands of spindles US(Large country) distributors probably order many many times more, and this has a major effect on prices.
but bear in mind
Ritek = good quality budget disc, various branded makes, various qualitys sold ie, A grade B grade etc. You never quite know what your getting until you burn a few and do a quality test. I've seen very poor quality so call A grade.
TY = Top quality disc used by duplication companies. Contant quality giving constant test results.
at the end of day you get wot you pay for. I guess it depends on what your using them for, that decides what price you are willing to pay.
As a good budget disc i can recommend the Ritek G05 discs, the best of which i have tried are sold under Riteks own brand name in cello wrapped stacks of 50 for around £15. -
We work on the 1 2 1 rate at work.. Its a way of balancing out any changes and carrage costs. Plus the added bonus of extra profit...
Just bought 100 ANV G05 for my main disks and trialing some datawrite printables (not sure on media code)
Never had any issues with ritek disks either G04 or G05.Not bothered by small problems...

What about a good place in Canada to buy this media? All I got in my town is the usual crap Future Shop and Staples sell.

I guess it isn't fake but they do not work wll with my Sony SLV D350P.
Does anyone have any suggestions.Do unto others....with a vengeance! -
I don't know the in's and out's of Dvdinfopro but if it reads the media code data to display that information then any fake disc that used the TYG02 media code might produce the same information as genuine TY dics, but that would not prove the manufacturer of the disc or the actual dye type used.
takes me back a couple of years when many manufactures used the TDK media code, but only a few were actual TDK discs.
Have these disc got a TY serial number in the centre of the disc as shown in my first post -
I could be wrong, but I think it was mentioned in another post somewhere, that the genuine TY's usually come in the Heavy duty spindle Tubs which are different to the standard spindle tubs used by the Majority of media (they have a different locking system). I have Maxell 4x (25 tub) and Panasonic printable 4x (50 tub), both of which are TY's made in Japan, and they come in the heavy duty tubs just like the ones shown on the blankdiscshop site. Although it's not the best picture the tub in the original post just looks like a standard one not the heavy duty ones.

there's some Fujifilm-branded Taiyo Yuden disks at Best Buy, $28 for a 50 pack. I was able to recognise them from the spindle, and they were made in Japan. I dont know if they ship to the UK though, and if the ones they ship will also be Taiyo Yuden.

supermediastore has 100 pack Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R for $45 only. That is one day sale. So hurry up if you want those best quality discs
