  1. Hello,
I'm trying to fit quite a few mpeg-2 encoded music videos on a DVD. I can only fit 7 or 8. Is there any way to have a ".vob" like compression.
I know of commercial DVDs that fit 30-40 music videos on one DVD.
How can I do that ??
    Your suggestions are very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kay

Are you just making a data DVD to play them "manually" on your computer, or do you wish them to be playable on a settop DVD player ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. Oh.. most certainly playable in a DVD player.

And why is it a trick question ?? !
    Thanks !

I believe that was a very very poor attempt at sarcasm.

The first rule of video is that size = bitrate * time, so to lower the size (and therefore allow for more time to fit), lower the bitrate when encoding to MPEG-2 files.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  6. i have a good solution for you.
Use a bitrate of around 6000kbps/7000kbps for the vid, and when making the DVD, tell the program your DVD is a large one, 8.5GB should usually do it (dual layer). Let is set up, prepare and make the .iso file or .vob files for the DVD. but DON'T BURN IT YET! open up DVDShrink, and use that to compress the 8.5GB DVD down to a single layer disk. Quality is very good, and can fit alot more onto it.

I have a better solution. Use a bitrate calculator and make it right the first time. Better results and it's faster. One here. Enter the total time for all the videos combined.

  8. I will certainly try your suggestions.
However, I already have some videos encoded with a higher bit rate. I don't have the source files anymore. Only the mpgs. How can convert it to lower bit rate ? TmpgEnc doesn't accept the file.
    2) I'm using NeroVision to author this DVD. It doesn't allow me to change it to higher capacity DVD (8.5GB as suggested). What do you suggest ?
I really would love to have a solution to this. I like to have my own collection of music videos !
    Thanks,
    Kay

  9. Are you using AC-3 sound or LPCM? AC3 offers much better compression.

TmpGenc WILL accept mpeg-2 files, sometimes, if your setup is right!

Easier is to open the mpeg 2 file in Dvd2avi, save a project file, then open this (.d2v IIRC) in TmpGenc and encode that - video only. dvd2avi will de-mux the audio when you save the project, so just use that as-is in your authoring program along side the newly encoded mpeg from tmpgenc.

  11. I'm usign LPCM. I can change it to AC3 if TmpgEnc or other encoder accepts the file. How can I can re-encode my mpeg-2 videos (without source file) to lower resolution and AC3 audio ?

    See my post above.

Encode the audio seperatley using something like BeSweet (several guides available on this site and elsewhere)

Combine the audio and video in your DVD authoring program.

  13. I don't have the source files though. (.vobs) etc. None of the video encoder accepts the mpeg file. Don't I need to re-encode video also ? Not just audio using BeSweet, right?

  14. spooky2k was on the right track. Just author the DVD with the mpgs you have and don't worry about being oversized, then use DVD shrink to make it fit a standard DVD.

Read my 1st post in this thread. I have told you how to get TmpGenc to accept the mpeg files. It will work with Vobs too, whichever you have!

  16. You will see a dramatic size reduction converting the LPCM to AC-3. No video conversion necessary. Load MPG into VdubMod. Save as WAV. Use Besweet to convert WAV to AC-3. Remux video and AC-3 file. Voila!
