Hi all not sure what to do here not even sure i should be asking this but i have a few films downloaded of the net, mpg, vcd, the trouble is a lot of them are 2 files (cd1/cd2) can these be joined together and then on to a single dvd as there is nothing worst than getting into a film only to have to get up and change disc

If they are DVD compliant MPEG-2 files, you don't need to join them. Just put both into your DVD authoring program and let it 'join' them. You can see what is DVD compliant by looking at the 'What is' DVD to the upper left.<<<
EDIT: If they are not DVD compliant, you have some reading to do. If they are the more common DIVX or XVID, it's a little more complex, but there are programs to do a lot of it for you. For SVCD or VCD, you can use something like SVCDDVD. For XVID or DIVX you can try TheFilmMachine. There are many other methods also. Like a said, do some reading. It's all there in the 'How To' section. -
what redwudz said, but with a side note:
If they are VCD compliant, there's no need to re-encode the video part, only the audio needs to be resampled to 48Khz (which TMPGEnc DVD Author and others will do for you "on-the-fly") because VCD resolution is also a valid DVD resolution, and MPEG-1 is fine on DVD up to 1850kbps or thereabouts. If in doubt, Google it. -
Thank you , you two were very helpful i see i have a lot to learn i have only just starting making back ups with a few probs but thanks to peeps on here i am now up and running with less coasters so it looks like i have some reading to do lol cant think of anything better to do on a cold and wet Sunday.
