    It depends on what your source file is. Each encoder listed above has it's strenghts and weakness.

    My vote goes for Canopus's Procoder Express, and Mainconcepts's MPEG Encoder. But, I work with nearly only interlaced footage, which is something CCE doesn't do well according to my eyes.

    CCE has been for a long time the best progressive frame encoder around. TMPG was my favorite, until I purchased Procoder, it only sits idle now.

    well how much you lookin to spend? if you got a healthy budget check into some of those others listed. if not, stick with tmpgenc

    Not only what your source is, but what your objectives are.

    If you are trying to encode hand held home footage, you should consider using an intermediate program to clean up and enhance prior to encoding.

    Are you after quality, quantity, speed or an inbetween point?
