  1. I have an NEC3500 and DVD Decrypter only rips @ around 3x. Surely my drive should rip quicker than this?

    Cheers, Slave

maybe you have to unlock it by flashing the firmware as they can be limited to this speed by default

DVD writers are usually locked to rip at 2x (mainly). the best option is to get a seperate dvd rom drive for the purpose of ripping. this saves wear and tear on your burner and offers faster ripping than anu dvd burners.

Lite On dvd roms have had some good reviews and are known to be the fastest rippers out there. with the prices of dvbd roms being cheap (here in the UK around £15-£20) it well worth getting one.

    Hi MrSlave,

"3x"? That fast...! Count yourself lucky. Check out this thread where I was getting anywhere between 0x and 2x max!!! I got loads of info and advice that may help you.

I've now got a new PC and have the Liteon installed, but have yet to rip so don't know it's speed. I figure it can't be any worse than before!

    Hope that helps. Good luck...

    With my Lite-On DVD ROM i have attained a 16X max ripping (on a dvd5) and 12X max on a dvd9.

Usually, all dvd5 will rip in under 5 minutes and dvd9 will rip between 10-15 minutes.
