  1. I've been trying to back-up the DVD movies that I own

    I reauthor them, that includes
    demux to elementary files [m2v,mpv.ac3,etc]
then I re-author my project in any software available [DVD-lab,TMPGEnc DVD Author,SpruceUP,Scenarist 3.0, ect]

These DVD-R's I create play fine in all DVD players I have tried
but, when I try them on my PS2 they play jumpy.
I've tried different methods of demuxing [VOB-edit,VOB-Rator,Vob Snoop,
Vstrip,DVD2AVI, etc] you name them. They all give me the same result.
I'm not saying these applications give me bad results, they give me dvd compliant files.
It's just the way experts create such files for DVD [VOB files], I think they add like a hidden code in the VOB files telling the DVD player decoder how to play the video and audio.

Some people say i'ts the media you're using ,but that's is not totally true.
I have tried different kind of media in my PS2, but they only play fine when I use DVD-Rebuilder , and I think that is because DVD-Rebuilder
Re-authors the DVD from the same info that it got from the VOB files,
I guess it just replaces the video stream in the VOB file with the new
compressed file with out taking apart the VOB file.

This hidden data could be the reason why the PS2 plays some re-authored DVDs jumpy.

I tried using the VOB file in DVD-Lab without demuxing and it plays
fine in the PS2, the problem is that is impossible to add chapters to the
VOB files, and if the VOB has different languages it only shows up with one when I preview it.

Maybe someone will come up with a tool that takes care of this problem.
    only time will decide
Until then I'm sticking with DVD-Rebuilder, missing the fun of Re-authoring my way.

Honestly, it is because the PS2 is a rubbish DVD player. Always has been. Try this - reauthor using another app - DVD Shrink, DVD Lab etc, then run the results of this through DVD Rebuilder. See what happens. But PS2 playback of DVD-R has always been hit and miss.

  5. For the ps2 write at 2x.

When watching a dvd on the ps2, just push setup, there you get some cool options you can use, try sharpness +2

Try to take a part of a movie that you did with DVD-Shrink, demux it to elementary streams,
then re-author it, you'll see that when you brake the VOB file it's not going to play fine no more in the PS2 like it did with the original.
I think that's because DVD-Shrink recompresses the video stream, then puts it back on in the orignal VOB file.

I've got an old version of Scenarist,
I'll try to make a little movie with some demuxed files that I have from
part of a DVD movie [by the way this is a disney movie].
