I don't know at what point Hotmail is going to stop Outlook access, but as of today, mine is still working like it always has. Anyone know when it's going away?

This would only apply to new users of Hotmail signing up a new account of now or today. Hotmail is doing this to stop spams.

I think would be April of next year for everyone else except for the paying Hotmail Plus and for them will still get Hotmail in Outlook Express.

I just have to get confirmation on this of when as I am not sure?

BTW, I am going to dump more of Hotmail in favor of Gmail as too slow. I am doing email forwarding of Gmail messages into a Yahoo Mail folder.

Just checked it again right now (Saturday night, 11/20/04) and it is still working just fine. But I'm sure that at some point it will stop.

When it does, I'll say sayonara to that e-mail address, though I've had it for several years.

I'll just add the Gmail account into my OE settings and start using that now that they are supporting POP3 (I assume that means SMTP works too?).

I've also been using Softhome.net for several years, and it has free POP3/SMTP access as well as a web interface. No complaints about it either, other than the mailbox is a bit small (20 MB, IIRC). Still big enough for most things I ever send or receive.

I hope Google continues to improve Gmail and force MS to reconsider their misguided move to get rid of OE access.

  8. I have to say: I think Gmail is wonderful. I mean, how many free emails give you 1 GB of storage? I set mine up like this: Gmail Notifier extension for Firefox which puts a little Gmail logo on the status bar which tells me when I have new messages. Pop access now setup in Thunderbird. Latter works very well.

I just re-activated a Hotmail account today after over 30 days of non-use.

As a result of this, I can't access it on OE6.

I don't use it much and there is another two free Hotmail accounts that I don't think would last.

The three will trash for three new Gmail accounts very soon as I would rather have google's POP access than so slow and restricted Hotmail.
