  1. I need some help in my neverending quest in converting streamed VOBs to DVD –*this is working sometimes but more often not ...
I am streaming movies from a pay per view box (dbox II) running an open-source Linux software to the Mac. Playing them under VLC is no problem, usually all audio streams are shown as well (it´s usually either two MP2 streams – german and english – or those two and a third one (AAC)).
I can demux them using bbdemux, although the second mp2 stream comes without file extension. Trying to demux them with ffmpegX results in less or no audio files.
I cannot author them in the tool´s section of ffmpegX. I got a "unkwon file format" error for either stream (yes, Quicktime shows/plays them)
Sometimes I can author them via Sizzle, but often it rejects the audio streams or, when succeeding, the audio runs unsynchronized when previewing via DVD player.
I guess there´s something with the VOBs that does not go with what the applications expect. But seeing windows applications routinely working with theses files I surely hope Mac programs can learn as well. I also noticed that ffmpegX often gives a different ratio than quicktime.
I´d like to upload little snippets somewhere so that maybe one of you can give me a hint. And yes – I´d like to author them into DVD format –*less conversion time and I want to preserve all available audio formats.

Trust ffmpegX over QuickTime when it comes to resolutions.

Have you tried using MPEG Streamclip to demux the streams? I think Streamclip was made for the type of streams you describe.
