Ok im going to be upgrading a new system due to the slow encoding my athlonXP. Im trying to figure out which would be faster to encode video. AMD64 or P4.

    this is what i found:
    http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjgyLDM=
    http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjMwLDU=

those timings show that amds are faster, but in all the forums, people say p4s would kill amd64s, and this was in the amd section so they werent just being partial. So im left with mixed answers. Was hoping for any input from anyone else.

depends which encoder you use --

honestly -- not a whole lot of real world diff. in speed .. i would take a look at the whole package ....

  6. There is actually a huge reason to go AMD. Eventually Windows 64 bit edition will hit, and you get a free upgrade to 64 bit computing (not including win64 of course)

Encoding shows great promise on a 64 bit processor, encoding apps optimized for 64 bit windows will most likely show much improved speeds.

In about 5 years when you've already replaced your computer twice.

Just get the most CPU for your money, AMD or Intel.
