uhhhh
burning noo good, no good
start with taking the ram out that u installed. -
Turn it off, unplug it. Replace PS. Keep fingers crossed that the PS didn't damage any other components.
You could also check inside the computer to see if any obvious wires are shorted out. If you're lucky and it's just the PS, they are easy enough to change out in most computers. -
Monitor your power supply closely. If it gets hot to the touch, replace it. [Edit] Whoops, redwudz beat me to the punch. Yeah.... what he said.

yeah, I was going to take the video card out and test it in my new computer, but now I'm kinda scared to touch my new system.
I just bought 2X 256 MB PC133 in the last month maybe I can get full credit for them and just upgrade her whole system
They where going to give me $70 for the MB and CPU maybe I could get that to if they are not damaged.
I've had a power supply die on me before but not like this so I think its major, it was cused by something I did I know that much.
Dam why'd I touch it. -
It might be incompatable memory, try removing the memory you put in see if it starts.
You might of not seated the memory correctly and shorted your board.
Your power supply may be alright because you got lights. Do the fans work? -
hehe I think I put the Memory in the wrong way, I thought it was alittle hard to push in, the MB and CPU still work it's in the shop I think it was the power supply, the shop is going to buy my MB and CPU and I'm going to upgrade.

Usually the sticks only go in one way.
They have notches and you have to line them up.
If you forced it, you probably messed up the motherboard and the ram. -
Earlier this year - and I realize my problem isn't exactly the same - I was running my basic comp with a cheapy 400W ps. I heard a click, saw a tiny puff of smoke, smelled burning, and then all that happened was the light stayed on on my Mobo. It turned out that the POS powersupply died (it was hardly even being stressed). I took it out and bought a nice antec 350W and have been going strong since
Nothing died, besides the PS. The mobo and all components were great. -
PS dies, it rarely takes out anything else.
Mobo, CPU die, at 65-75 watts draw, short out, they can and will take out a PS.
PS is usually the cheapest part to replace, even if you take the advice above and get one of the best.
Best thing you can ALL do is buy a PSU tester, 10 or 12 bucks. All green, OK.
Don't throw away a good one, install a new one, have the same problem, ask "What the hell, I listened to you all...."
Cheers,

What things can a PSU tester tell you?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -

Testing for what though. You can find out whether or not an ATX PS is functional with just a paperclip. Is there something more it gives you that makes it worth the money?

Ok, that's what I was after. I've never used one myself, so I wasn't sure.
