    Actually, microsoft email alias is setup like this (at least everyone I know that works for MS)

    loginID@microsoft.com
    (1st name and 1st initial of last name) billg@microsoft.com
    (whole name with period) bill.gates@microsoft.com
    (HR name with period) william.gates@microsoft.com
