It will not run a java app if the numbscull who write the app used MS speicfic java commands. If its a real 100% sun java app it will run.

Also this belongs in the computer section.

    Two things I noticed:

Sometimes your various tab start up pages don't load on program start. Sometimes it requires to close and restart along with 'reprogramming' that feature in the options.

Also, some pages that "imbed" ms media streams won't play on Ffox.

Same deal for me - AdBlock and Tabbrowser Prefs should be integrated into Firefox, not extensions imo. The week or so it takes for Tabbrowser Prefs to be updated after a new release of FF is a very painful week And AdBlock... nothing beats this extension! Goodbye to ALL ads - the more you blink and flash trying to get my attention, the more satisfying it is to block!

For me, if a website doesn't work with Firefox, too bad for the website.

  11. I wish the extension SuperDragNGo would be compatible with the 1.0 version. Other than that I love it- alot better than IE!

I started using 1.0 about a month ago, and I can't believe what an improvement it was over Internet Explorer. My IE was pretty much invaded and conquered, and there was nothing I could do about it. I reinstalled it, ran Spy Bot, Ad-Adaware- nothing. Someone reccomended FireFox, and I can't see myself going back. I never get pop-ups, no homepage hijacks, and I love the whole interface. I normally don't get impressed by many things, but I'm telling you, I had pretty much given up on easy browsing until I downloaded this baby.

If you think that is great you should check out all the skins and extensions available, you can really make your surfing much easier and more enjoyable!

I had been using Maxthon (nee MyIE2), and was pretty happy with it. It's pop-up blocking and tab handling is still more intuative than FF, even with Tab Browser Prefs installed. But, it is based on IE, and therefore still carries some of the same security issues. If TBP handled tabs as well as Maxthon, I'd be a very happy camper.

Do you have a link for it? By the way, tux is great! What flavor of linux do you use? I use a special flavor of slackware called topologilinux that runs off an image file on your ntsf partition but does a real boot (not an emulator).

I haven't experienced that problem.. but I would still prefer it over IE, if only for the security.

  21. No problems here, fast and efficient browsing. No spyware getting through, either. I find Internet Exploder clunky and rigid (no customisation) in comparison.

I really like the customizations in firefox too. Especially where you can open links in new tabs with mouse shortcuts, it makes browsing alot easier.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add the little search feature in the right hand side. You integrate many search engines right into your browser. I have wikipedia, Google, yahoo, eBay, Amazon, dictionary.com.. amazing =)

Can you add custom search engines in too?

  25. I've been using FF for about 6 months and never looked back. The only time I have to get out IE is when some idiot has blocked access to a page if you're not using IE, thinking this makes the site more "secure".
I recommend and use these extensions:
Clone Window - should be part of FF
Disable Targets for downloads - should be part of FF
Show Image - should be part of FF
ieview - right click and "view page in Internet Explorer" for those stubborn sites
BugMeNot - view pages that require registration without registering
Context Highlight - highlight a word, right-click and "Highlight Word", highlights every instance of that word on the page
Dictionary Search - highlight a word, right-click to bring up a definition on dictionary.com
Webmailcompose - if you use hotmail, gmail etc instead of an email app
    Image Zoomer

Thanks, I'm going to check those out!
    I use:
SuperDragAndGo: drag links and drop and they create a new tab (Did anyone find a link for the 1.0 compatible version????)
    Tabbed Browsing Extensions: Tab customizations
NOIA Extreme: great theme, looks like OS X. Does anyone have a link for a 1.0 compatible version of this also?
I use firefox in both windows and linux.

The best way to keep the extensions up to date is to check the homepage for the extensions you want to update.

  30. The old homepage for extensions (prior to 1.0) was:

    http://texturizer.net/firefox/extensions/

You can still find them there, and most work with 1.0.
