  1. What is the languagesetting of your windows? By preview I mean running the video in the video player. Is it the same behaviour in the video player?

Window 7 language setting is English. Both preview and export have the some issue. I manually set the font to Simsun and select GB2312 in each slide.

  3. Try changing the language setting of Windows to Chinese and reboot your computer.

In Win 7, use Change System Locale and select language. Reboot. It's working working now.
But I notice that if I change font setting on 1 slide, the rest will follow. Anyway, English still display OK even with Chinese Font.

Currently, I am using version 0.9.5.3.

  5. Good. Does 0954 work too? If you want to use individual fonts for selected slides try to use the font tag. Left combobox in the bottom of the slide settings menu.

OK. I was having problem with preview on V.0.9.5.3. It keep prompting for external program when I do preview. So, I tried V.0.9.5.4.
The setting of the System Locale in Windows 7 fixed the non-English subtitle issues. This version also fixed the external program issue.

As for the font setting for indiviadual slides, I couldn't locate it in the slide settings menu.
    Are refering to this ?

Anyway, it still display the English subtitle correctly even in Chinese font.

    Thank you very much.

  7. In File>External Programs you can set the paths to external programs such as the media player.

If I remember correctly I talked about subtitle tags in the video tutorial I posted a link to a few posts back in this thread.

Is there any limit on the number of slides for each project ?

  10. It's dependant on your hardware, RAM etc. Apparently there is a problem with Dissolve_Bloom, so try not to use that transition with a slideshow in that length.

The preview crashed even with less than 150 slides. I couldn't find any option for no transition. So, I am not sure if it was the transition that caused the crash. My system is core i7 with 8GB RAM. OS is windows 7 Home Premium.

I reverted from V.0.9.5.4 to V.0.9.5.2. It preview OK with 257 slides. But HCenc crashed during export. I change HCenc to 0.25 but it still crashed.

    Update on 16th Jan 2013 -
    1. I tried from oldest to V.0.9.5.4. Went throught many install and uninstall in the process.
    2. Somehow the dissolve trasition is bugged. Preview and encode crashed with "dissolved" transition.
    3. In order to update trasition for all slides, first must select all slides and update trasition in the slide menu. That was my mistake for not update all the slides so that the "dissolves" transition are removed.
    4. As long as I don't exceed 300 slides, the V.0.9.5.4 runs fine on Windows 7. Subtitle is ok too with english and chinese characters.
    5. I changed the bitrate and maxbitrate in the HC.ini file to 6000 and 6500. This reduced the filesize by half.

  12. Some of the transitions are more memoryintensive than others, try with ex. cut when doing long shows.

    Hi tin2tin,
I have tried more that 350 slides without any issues. The transition Dissolve_Bloom.avs is bugged. It crashed with only 2 slides.
So, V.0.9.5.4 works fine on Windows 7 Home Premium with 8Gb RAM. For foreign language subtitle, just change System Locale to the foreign language.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello tin2tin

I've got some very small, old jpg photo files- for example- 67 x 86, 90 x 75 etc.

When I create my slideshow, these pictures use the full height of the screen and are therefore heavily pixelated.

I know that using the pictures at their original size will make them look very small on screen, but at least they would be recognisable!
What's the best way to prevent them being 'stretched' to use the full height of the screen?

    Thanks
    Stef

This might be a simple setting error or difference in my platforms environment, because the preview function does work.

    DVD Slideshow Version: DVDsGUI0954.exe
    Avisynth: AviSynth_130114.exe
O.S. Japanese Microsoft XP Home Edition (Yes I prefer *nix)
Description of failure: mpg or avi file fails to be built.

What happens when I try to export:
dvdslideshow invokes HCenc and all starts well, but then HCenc displays the following error:

'(8) ERROR, can't open dbs file, invalid path?'
The above number eight get redisplay as 7, and then on down to 1 and then the window
closes and disappears. All temp/files and any .ac3 and a NULL .mpg files are immediately erased. (I have attached a bmp picture file of the HCEnc screen display.

Note that the "Preview" funcationality works and DVDsGUItemp.avs does play fine.

I searched through the .avs file and could not find any reference to a db file.
    I am unfamiliar with HCenc.

What 'dbs' files are missing and where are they llikely to be?

Please advise me on what some possible solutions to this are, so that I can build an mpg file successfully.

    Thank You.

  18. Searching this thread for dbs, it reveals that that it is a possible setting in the HCenc ini file, which isn't set in the DSG included hcenc ini files. This is typically not necessary even on my Windows 8 computer. So I would guess that your HCenc might need to have the permission(set to Run as Admin?) to create that file or you could try to add the setting to the Hcenc ini files and specify a path where the file can be saved to.

I haven't encountered anything like what you mention there, so my guess is as good as yours.

But it is a good thing that the preview plays fine. This means you could export as avs and use VirtualDub, WinFF or Super or even EyeFrame Converter to convert the Avisynth script into a video file - depending on what format you need to end up with.

    How to rotate photos?

Any chance of a short tutorial on YouTube or somewhere on how to use Animation to simply rotate a photo in the slide show?

I've tried and tried dozens and dozens of times, with only limited success. Sometimes it does flip 90, but then the slideshow sticks on that and doesn't go to the next slide. I'm not trying to do a moving rotation, although that can be nice too.

It's unclear the mechanics of the powerful Animation tool. Do "settings" then set a key? Then move to end for another key at the end? But the first key just seems to get moved to the end, sometimes. Error: "must have two keys!" And the help mentions of left, middle, and right buttons - I simply don't know what they are talking about.

Other than my "ignorance of this," the program really does nice stuff!

    Thanks.

That helps a lot! Thanks. Now doing the steps in the right order with some confidence.

New problem. After changing/rotating several files, and also adding text to a bunch of files, saving as I went, today I tried to open the DSG file, with over 200 photos. It took a while as usual, but after the "progress" bar filled I got the following error message (each time I've tried to open it). Screen shot attached. "Can't perform inequality test on nothing against number . . . line 2246 . . . "

Can this be fixed, or do I have to go back to an older version? Any idea what prompts this error?

  23. Sounds like a bug in the animation element of DSG. If you have a previous working backup of your project at an earlier stage try using that.

If you like, I can take a look at the .dsg file, if you want to upload it somewhere like wetransfer, though I can't promise when I'll get around doing that.

  24. Hi, first of all thanks a lot for this software and the continuous support in this forum here. I downloaded it yesterday and spend more that half the night to create a slideshow. At the beginning I just added a few pictures and burned it to a DVD and BD to check if everything works.
Then I did the long project with 161 pictures and one video. The video is an .avi file and I did the scriptadjustment mentioned in the help of DSG.
However, now that everything is done, it crashes all the time when trying to burn the slideshow.
It works fine until HCenc starts encoding. After already 1% (source position 00:09:28) mpeg2 encoder stops working. I downloaded the newest version 0.26 of it and included the path in DSG.
I removed all "dissovle-transitions" since I have read, that these might cause problems.
It might be interesting, that the first slide is a transparent one (Duration 100) and after that directly the videofile starts. But in the single preview the videofile works fine.
In the overall preview the media player crashes at 0:31 - this is the time when the videoslide ends and normal picture files should be shown.
    I have a Win7 machine (64bit) and use DSG version 0.9.5.4.

Can someone please help me with this because I'm close to give up and would like to have a product after not sleeping tonight. Thanks in advance!

  25. Ok, I just noticed, that the videofile seems to be the problem, when leaving it out of the slideshow the burning goes through.
Any suggestions what might be the problem with this?
Have I correctly adjusted the foldernames in the script?
    Quote Quote
  26. Never mind I managed to get the desired result with a different videofileformat.
    Quote Quote
  27. Sorry for your troubles, but I'm happy to hear that you solved it. I believe it's only the dissolve_bloom which causes problems. What was the MadiaInfo of the original file?

Alternatively if a videofile is causing problems you could try to convert it to an Avisynth script, by clicking the Avisynth button in DSG.

  28. I have been using dvd slideshow on windows 8 and most of the time when i use audio with the slideshow
the program crashes while its converting the sound. This happens most of time, only on rare occasions
it manages to complete the iso file with the sound

I tried using different slide transitions and same result occurs

    the computer configuation is:
    windows 8
    intel i5 3570
    4gb ram
    realtek high definition audio

i have about 250 bmp images

the sound is an mp3, set to use video audio and loop

If i dont use any audio with the slideshow for the iso it manages to complete the iso everytime

When i did it on my laptop (windows xp) it works and completes the iso with sound
but takes a lot longer its an old machine and gets hot

    the old machines configuration is:
    windows xp sp3
    intel core 2 duo t8100
    2gb ram
    sigmatel audio

i tried removing the new.ini file as mentioned in another topic, where someone
had a similar error message but it didnt work

Is there way of doing it on the desktop with sound with out crashing?

    Thanks for your help

  29. Hmm, sounds like a Windows 8 problem. Try to change the compatibility setting for hcenc.exe to ex. XP this way: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-run-older-programs-under-windows-8.html
