I'm using the latest DVD SLidehow GUI, 0.9.5.3. When I right-clicked a slide and added text in the subtitle area, I expected that to be a caption on the slide when Previewed. But nothing shows. None of them do after I entered subtitles on several slides. Do I have to do something to turn on the subtitle? In the tutorial it seemed that they just appeared after entry.

Just a sidenote: When I upgraded versions and the old one was automatically uninstalled, I found that I could not preview anything - got an "error" say I needed an encoder - and preview screen was blank. Cured it by using External Applications HCencoder slot to: C:\Program Files\DVD slideshow GUI\HCenc_026.exe after I got the file and put it there.

  3. Make sure that Project Settings > Subtitles is checked.

If you do not install to the default location you'll have to show where the external applications are located in File > External Applications.

    Missing Sources

    Hi TinTin

I noticed, that in 9.5.3 distribution the newest source is missing. Is this a change in policy or did you just forget it?

  6. Hey guys, i'm new here and new to DVD slideshow GUI, my issue is when i try to convert my picture to a slideshow, i get this error: Evaluate: system exception- access violation Avisynth can not handle one of the slides between 48 and 48. aborting operation. Please can someone help.

    Thanks in advance

  7. @ George84 - No change of politics, but I wonder why anyone would want the source-code, since wxBasic has been dead and buried for many years now?

@ askirk64 - It means that slide number 48 is causing an error. Something in that file is incompatible with Avisynth, and therefore DSG. Try to open that image in an image-editing program and re-save it or leave it out of the slideshow.

    Hi TinTin

Well, I used the source code and modified it to export the DSG project additionally to SMIL format. (Yes SMIL is dead too.) SMIL allows to create very sophisticated slideshows, but you have to edit everything in a text file. So I used DSG as a GUI to create a SMIL. This SMIL file can then be converted to avs.

It is basically just a fun project, and I have reached a state where I can convert simple DSG slideshows, containing transitions and animations.

But the main effort in my project is to convert SMIL to AVS. The additions to DSG are less than 200 lines of code.

  9. Tin2Tin, Thanks for the reply, any idea how to find picture 48 to remove it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hehe viva la dead code... Is the reason for this that you get to use other transitions than those included since you convert it to Avisynth anyway or is it also for web use(over the years I been thinking about various web export options)? Anyway I would love to see any video you created this way. Let me know if you want me to add your code to the releases.

@ askirk64 In the lower right corner there are numbers changing you you left clickon slides - this way you can find number #48. When you found it try to re-save it as I mentioned or hit the del key or the cut icon for deleting it.

Watch this tutorial to get more familiar with DVD slideshow GUI:

    From the manual:
    Status Bar:
    Right Side:
The number of the selected slide out of all slides. Ex. 3/7 means 3. slide is selected out of a total of 7 slides.
The time of the selected slide will be shown out of the total duration. Ex. 00:00:19.00/00:00:57.00 means the selected slide will be shown 19 sec. into a slideshow with a total duration of 57 sec.

  16. Do you have plenty of free space on your c: drive?

How was the images created? Are all of them directly from the same camera or has any of them been resaved in other applications before added to the slideshow?

All I can recommend you to do is to keep removing images until you remove the image causing the error.

My brother just got a nice Digital camera. First thing I did was turn him onto the DSG. In the process of attempting to show him a few things that might come in handy I wanted to express that the DSG is useful for random images as well as digital photos. Remember when were no digital photos? Then we were given the scanner. Now we have the Win 7 Snipping Tool, and images end up being random sizes and formats. I created a screen capture that utilizes a program called Fotosizer along with the DSG. I use it often with Premiere and Vegas. Keep in mind I know very little what I'm doing, but it's worked for me for almost 40 years. I'm not sure if I long for the days before digital audio/video, but I do wish for the days before caller ID and answering machines. I didn't like splicing 1/4 audio tape with a razor, the undo wasn't so smooth, but it got the job done.

  20. I'm sorry I've been out of the dsg loop. I been coding EyeFrame Converter which aims at beeing the missing link to get footage in and out of Lightworks. Http://eyeframe.tk

Very nice tutorial. However I wonder why you scale the imagrs before importing them to dsg, when dsg takes care of that? The other thing I woner is why you need winff to transcode too? Finally I would suggest that you check the don't show this message again and say yes to accept the codec. Anyway thank you for making a tutorial whick includes dsg. Maybe next time you could tell abit about what you're doing and aiming for throught out the video. Good to hear from you again.

I have interest in your work on EyeFrame I haven't gotten into Lightworks yet, I really should, but another video editing software for me I just haven't jumped in to it. I'm not sure why I scale the images before importing. I wanted to have them stretched to 16:9 for the purpose of example. Also I have a pet peeve about the slightest thin black top or bottom right or left of a video frame. For example whatever or however the YT Vid is being played in this thread, there they are on the sides. It just makes me put my head on the table, and close my eyes. To partially explain my goal with the video, I wanted to show that multiple image ratios and formats can be adjusted to fill the full frame of the video. I will spend a lot of time eliminating the thinnest pillarbox or letterbox from any project. Mastering to DVD isn't as critical because a television doesn't always show the full frame of the video, and you can get away with certain things. However, internet video is not so forgiving. And in the end I was just tossing some ideas and tips to a new user of the DSG. Oh, and I allowed the message asking about the codec, because I wanted to show that "Yes" is the correct answer. I may be at fault when using external software to scale the images, but something tells me that many of them would not be stretched to fill the frame. It is preferable to me, but even my brother said he didn't like distorting his images like that. He also chose VHS over Beta. Again it seems I will go to great lengths to have the image completely fill the frame. Many may disagree, but I like it. If one has never seen the raw image they'd never know.

  22. If you want to fill the frame, without strechin the images you can zoom in with the animation tool or use avsp's build in crop function(look for it in the menus).

Thank you for the information on zoom/animation tool. This I must try. I use AvsP daily (Avspmod) as a standalone for various tasks. The resulting script is familiar to me since a long time ago you taught me a ton about that area. These tips I will enjoy trying. As always, thank you for helping. I'm completing a project for Guthy Renker that has a deadline of November 5th, so I feel under pressure to generate ambition. But as soon as I get a break I'll dive into doing a handful of things in the DSG, keeping more in line with your guidance and suggestions. I enjoy my time in your software, and look forward to it.

I love this program. I have Premiere CS5.5, and Vegas 11, and I still often use the DSG for photo slideshows. Nothing wild or frustrating complicated. Just a photo slideshow. Simply in and out done. Can't wait til I get my Cannon EOS Rebel T4i 18-135mm. Thanks for all your work and tech help. Happy 8th birthday.

  26. Yeah it does many things even commercial software can't do. I had a look at Photodex ProShow, couldn't work out how to have animated backgrounds of any sort, just plain coloured backgrounds or gradients etc. I might have missed something lol, but I ended up deleting the trial & sticking with DSG!

Congrats on your 8th year anniversary, tin2tin. You do a lot of great work out there!

  27. Greetings. New here and to the program. I've made a short simple slideshow w/transitions and have a couple questions before exporting. (Still going through the paces and tutorials).

Did I read correctly that exporting to web is not supported with this program?

I'm interested in embedding slideshows into a web page.

If it isn't supported are there plans to add that in the near future?

Thanks and congrats on such a long running with the program....8yrs is quite a feat to reach!

Export as ".flv". This will give you the flash file, a html file and a flash player you can upload to your site.

BTW. Thanks guys for the kind words.

  29. I need some help from you guys. I realised that Media Player Classic 32-bit can't open in 64-bit and can't be used for windows 7/8, so my question is do you guys know of a videoplayer which plays .avs files and is standalone(no installation) which could be included in the DSG installer instead?
