  1. The 16:9 format on a DVD is stored as a x value - squeezed 4:3 ratio and when playing back the x value is stretched to 16:9. therefore I think it would be more correct to have:
    NTSC DAR 16:9 & PAR 1:1 exported as 852x480
    PAL DAR 16:9 & PAR 1:1 exported as 1024x576

when doing NTSC 16x9, I found that it does have a slight offset. This offset is minimal, and I was only able to notice it by putting two duplicate images back to back in the slide show, displaying the first unanimated and the second animated (but with a few seconds of still image at the start of the animation). In that case you can see a slight but obvious shift in the image to the right as it transitions to the second image (use a cut or dissolve rather than a fancy transition). You might not find this worth fixing, but I expect that you now know this part of the code quite well and as a tester I would be at fault if I didn't mention it.
I'll try to get the animated 1:1 as exact in position as the non 1:1 settings.

BTW. VirtualDubMod lets you open and text edit DSG exported .avs(Avisynth scripts). In VirtualDubMod > Tools > Script Editor.

And you can even use VirtualDubMod as the previewer for DSG by changing the path of Medial Player Classic to the path of VirtualDubMod in DVD slideshow GUI > Slideshow > External Applications > MplayerC

Has anyone gotten DSG to work under wine on 64 bit RHEL 6? This works fine on 32 bit, but in 64 bit I get dingbats for characters in all the popups. When called, the HCenc never completes, and the Media Player Classic doesn't work either.

Thanks for any hints/tips. As this works in 32 bit, I have a KVM Ubuntu that I'm setting up instead.

DSG is a nice package! Thanks!!

    Best, Mark

  4. I wish I could help you out, but I haven't used Linux/Wine ever.

It sounds like it somehow is related to wxWidgets(DSG is coded in wxBasic - a wxWidgets binding) running under 64 bit wine or the language setting somehow is affected.

BTW. there is also a 64 bit Avisynth build somewhere over at www.doom9.org.

    Hi,

yesterday I installed the latest version of DSG. Every time I right click on a picture or when I press the "Project Setting" button I get the following warning message:

Name:	error_message.jpg
Views:	630
Size:	25.9 KB
ID:	8395

It says: The file you want to playback has an extension (.AVS) which does not match to the file format. Playback of this file can result in unexpected behavior. Do you want to continue?

Does anybody have an idea why I get this message? Is something wrong with my installation of DSG or is the mentioned file corrupted / infected (my virus scanner does not react)? Is it secure to ignore this warning?

    Thanks in advance!

    Phoen

  7. There is nothing wrong with your installation. The Project Settings window is using the native windows media player, which apparently doesn't know Avisynth(.avs) files. Just click 'yes' to allow it to open those files.

Avs files are the text files DSG generates and through Avisynth is converted to video. They are not dangerous in any way.
    What OS are you using?

Thanks a lot for your quick answer!

Well, to be precise the warning message does not says that the media player does not know the file format but it says the extension does not match to the file format. Because of that I feared a corrupted / infected file. But you are quite sure everything is save? Do you have ever seen this message?

I use Windows Vista 64. Is this the clue?
Ah, one more: when I double click a picture DSG launches the Media Player Classic and I do not get the message.

    Thank you very much!

  9. Hi there,
I had an annoying problem with the old 0.9.3.8 and also with the newest 0.9.4.1 version and now found out why I got this problems and want to tell you:
No matter, if I add 2 or 120 pictures to my slideshow and put 1 or more little video-clips at the end.

    Details:
Videos and audio taken with a Canon PowerShot A640. Input data: MJPEG, 640x480, 30.00300 fps, Audio: PCM U8 araw, Channels: 1, 11024 Hz, bits per sample: 8, bitrate: 88 kb/s).

Problem: Video is jerking and audio is stretched.
Why is that? I think video must be down-converted from 30 fps to 25 fps.

So finally it would be nice to have a warning message when the framerate in the project-settings (F6) not match with one (or more) of the added video-framerates.

Thanks, so far it's a very nice piece of software ;D

Don't worry it's safe. I've seen it before, but there is noting I can do to avoid it. Just okay it.

    @ furziger
DSG doesn't do any framerate conversion, so you'll have to convert your videofiles beforehand to match the fps of the project. I did have a fps warning, but most users don't even know what a framerate is - and it caused a lot of confusion. So I removed it - in the hope that people only would use short clips, so the potential unsync audio wouldn't be too visible.

Take a look in the doom9.org forum for Avisynth framerate conversion solutions. DSG can import Avisynth scripts as slides or convert videos to Avisynth script by selecting the video and clicking the 'Avisynth Script' button.

Is the video also jerking when the slideshow is exported?

Haven't been here for awhile had to come here and mention what a useful program this is. Just finally got myself a decent computer. After 7 years of 2Ghz single processors and 2Gb of RAM I am now in that dual core world with 4Gb of RAM. Even if you don't ever make a slideshow and don't even want to, this software just spreads a pack of joy across your machine. It includes and installs some very valuable components. If you're doing any kind of A/V production you'll appreciate this software at some point. And even if you didn't want to you'll find yourself making slideshows. This software is fun and has given me little to no trouble in Win 7 32 bit. I use Adobe CS4 and a full Sony package including Vegas 10, the DVD Slideshow GUI is one of the first things installed on every machine I own. The friendly support I've received here would make Adobe and Sony be ashamed of them selves. Thanks Tin2tin for everything. A plugin for Premiere and Vegas would get the worlds attention I'm sure. Great work!

  12. Been playing around with longer subtitles in the next version of DSG, which will allow subtitles to work like scrolling credits:

    Video Background:

  13. That looks great!

tin2tin, any chance you could look at why I get audio glitches at the start of a slideshow? sometimes it is fading in unwantedly, other times it just goes wacky...

    eg fading in - http://youtu.be/5NjRYbJf5AA, and http://youtu.be/7pXe_xTwla0
    eg glitchy start - http://youtu.be/7G4Il-KgSSw

I notice also when you "match video to audio duration", you no longer have any control over transition length? Is that correct? It's as if transitions default to a set duration that cannot be overridden without affecting the entire slideshow duration (see example #2 above, in which duration of slideshow no longer matches up with audio).

One more thing, I was interested in using the "Post_only_whiteline" effect, however while it starts out looking real groovey, within a few seconds it just ends up running across the screen at the same level, no variation at all. Is this correct? How can I make it keep changing, like it does at the very start of the effect?

  14. @ chowmein

Could you share me some of the audio which causes the problem?

Or if you want to tinker with it yourself, then export to avs. Open that file with AvsP and try to change the fade(...) functions. Avisynth offers different versions: http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Fade
As far as I remember, without a short fade in the beginning there will be a high click kind of sound. If you find a better way - let me know.

Nice to see you're using some of the animated backgrounds.

When calculating the 'Match to Audio Duration' I set the transition duration fixed in order to make the calculations more simple... for me...

Tutorial on changing values in plugins comming up in a moment.

  16. You can now nominate DVD slideshow GUI for this year’s edition of the Packt Open Source Awards.

  17. tin2tin, you RULE.

Thanks so much for that video tutorial, wow, that is fantastic feature! I can spend HOURS playing here! As for transition durations when "matching audio" - that is fine, so long as I know it is deliberate fixture and not just me! :P I will look at manually adjusting the avisynth script too, to eliminate any fading in of audio.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your valuable assistance! (I have nominated DVD slideshow GUI for the Packt awards! Good luck!)

  21. DVD slideshow GUI 0.9.4.2 is out!

Felt that it was time for an update. Not all bugs are fixed though - like the audio glitz(I'm having a hard time reproducing it).
It's very important to allow the installer to update Avisynth, because subtitles will not work correctly on older Avisynth versions than 2.60.

    Changelog:
    0.9.4.2
    New:
    - Max subtitle length is now 1020 characters
    - Simpler subtile saving in Avisynth script
    - Tutorial acces from menu.
    Updated:
    - Avisynth 2.60(important!)
    -FFmpegSource
    - Ffdshow
    - Imgburn
    Bugfixes:
    - Paint path.
    - Animation Calibration.
    - DAR 16:9 with PAR 1:1

    Get it here!

I apologize, tin2tin, I haven't been near your software recently. Thanks for the new update. I will experiment & report back. Thanks so much for your efforts with this beautiful creature!

  24. I've already posted this video here, but with the latest release it is possible to do this yourself. The subtitle text+tags is posted here too, so you can copy & paste it into a subtitle.

  27. Hello everyone. Wow! 7 year's development is in one thread.
What a dedication. Thanks a lot tin2tin. Very nice app indeed.

I want to mention about the "can't preview avs file" issue.
A lot of people have stated this problem and I also have tried to figure out
why Media Player Home Cinema doesn't play the preview avs file.

After several Google search I have found that you only need to change the "RAW Video" setting.

So what you need to do:

    1. Open the FFDShow "Video Decoder Configuration"
    2. Set the "RAW Video" to "all supported"

That's it. No need to even set "Avisynth" afa I have experienced.

  28. I apologize ahead of time if this is the incorrect thread to post issues with DSG, but I'm having a problem every time I try to import an AVI file and I'm not sure if it's a bug or just an issue I'm experiencing. Here is the error I receive:

Name:	DSGError.JPG
Views:	232
Size:	61.3 KB
ID:	9107

Tried Google without any luck and have tried uninstalling/re-installing ffdshow and DSG without any success. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, but tried it on a computer running Vista with the same result.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for providing the good info on the RAW setting in FFDshow.

Yeah, 7 years... dedication? Sounds a bit crazy to me...
How are we going to celebrate the DSG thread "birthday" in november?
