    I downloaded version .76. I keep getting the the following error when I try to open the dvdslideshowgui.exe which won't let me open the application

    File error-error reading from file fgets() in file "C:\program files\dvd slideshow gui\dvdslideshowgui.exe line 8897: > postslibox.setselection (postslibox.findstring(f(gets(handle)))

    I have a HP Pavilion laptop with intel dual core 3.6 ghz with 1gb ram running windows vista. I did not have this problem using dsg version .75.

  2. Hmm sorry about this - sounds like the new.ini wasn't properly overwritten, when installing and it is missing the new stuff added to this version. Did you uninstall the previous version before installing the new one?

    Try this one: run it from the main folder of an installed 0.76 RC1(it will not work with previous versions!)
    [edit: there is a newer version out...]

    If this doesn't work delete the file called new.ini and run the program.

    Please let me know if some of this works for you(I don't get you error - but it doesn't have anything to do with with your computer - just the installed files).

    Hallo tin2tin,

    I asked about using the usercomment or imagediscription out of the exif-data as subtitle instead of using the filename. Of course switchable.

    Is it possible in the future? What do you think?

  5. Well guess it could be done with jhead.

    Which can extract this stuff:
    Things jhead can extract from an Exif jpeg file
    Time and date picture was taken
    Camera make and model
    Integral low-res Exif thumbnail
    Shutter speed
    Camera F-stop number
    Flash used (yes/no)
    Distance camera was focused at
    Focal length and calculate 35 mm equivalent focal length
    Image resolution
    GPS info, if stored in image
    IPTC header
    How much of this info do you think would be useful in a slideshow?

    RC2 definitely fixed the fgets error. I was looking at the tutorials and they said that subtitles (text) are able to be moved by right clicking in the options, presets menu on the photo subtitle text box. I tried it and I am unable to move the subtitles by right clicking and moving the text box. The text box is at the bottom of the photo and I can't move it.
    Quote Quote
  7. Moving the texts are not possible anymore, that was before I turned the texts into actual subtitles.

    What tutorial was that(I guess that I'll have to fix that)?

    Did the new effects work for you?

    The new effects worked fine for me. The link for the tuturial that shows text can be moved is at http://www.geocities.com/naked3d/DVDsGUIvtr.htm

    If you want to explain the photo and no technics about camerasettings the comment and date/time is useful.
    It would be nice to use different output formats for the Date/Time-flag: only date, date and time, locale date formats 01.07.2007, Jul 01 2007 etc.
    I think all other flags are important for the photographer but not for the people I show the photos on TV.

  10. Effects over images or slideshow option is a great addition. 8)

    But,

    - Status bar says xxx.avs loading... please wait!

    Why is it loading Posteffects? Start up takes too long..

    - I could not use Filmstrip.avs. It makes full of very small pictures..!

  11. @ schmicki

    In my eyes the only info jhead produces which might be interesting to add is the Date/time thing. I dunno if I'll add this. DsG is also limited to one line of subtitle. I think there are several free softwares which let you look at an photo and see the data.

    @ alevon

    Thanks.

    Well is is not actually loading the plugins "into" DsG, but it has to make sure that the plugins avalible can produce valid video-clips before adding them as options. But maybe there are too many? Or maybe it could add all avs files in the Posteffects folder at startup and then check if the effect was okay, when an effect is selected... that would speed up the start up of the gui.

    I should have added post_only to the name of Filmstrip.avs. Try to add it to the post(slideshow) option instead of image.

    Hi tin2tin,

    After taken the photos from camera to PC, I use the IPTC-Data for keywords and discriptions (only for pictures it is useful, for example: names of buildings etc.)
    Now I've found your great tool. But I have to write my discription manually in the subpicture field.
    I think an automatic is much better than writing the text again. If I'm the only person that use this feature - no problem, I'll try to convert the discription in the filename, and than use it within DsG.

    thank you for your help

  14. Okay RC3 is up.

    [edit: get the latest at the homepage]

    0.76 RC3
    New Features:
    - Exif import
    - Faster startup
    Bugs fixed:
    - Import of mp3 was broken.
    - Animation preset window update.

    @ schmicki
    As you can see have I added the values offered by jhead. I really hope you find it useful! Now if you what to do me a favour, how about writing on how to use this data inside and outside for DVDsGUI, so I can use it in the help files(I dislike to write docs...)

    @ alevon
    Here filmstrip(a Free Frame plugin - I didn't make it) fills the screen from the upper left conor, when the screen is full it starts all over. Like the entire slideshow layed out as one by one tumbnails.

  15. When I use pre effect (toon) with animation;

    Transition : Overlay.avs
    Animation : Yes
    Pre Effect : MSU_Toon.avs

    The animated slide is seen as a black blank animation..

    OK, I've tested the exif-section.

    There is a Problem I must explain, but it is to long for the forum I think. I'll pm you.

  18. As I said before, I liked the effects over images or slideshow option..

    But I want it to be more optional..

    As we can set the pre effects from the Presets window, it would be great if we can set it for every slide.

    The setting from the Presets window can be default, and the slides pre effect can also be set.

  19. @ alevon

    If you want to work on every single slide I think you should use a Photoshop-like(Paint.Net is free) program to make your slides look like you want them.

    Another option with more slides is in DsG you can export to avs, which can be loaded into DsG again so you can have a series of slides with different effect for each avs(type in '0' in safeX and safeY - no border). Here's an example: Mixed Effects all done in DsG.

    The third option is that you export slides with effect as bmp and then import them into DsG again.

    @ schmicki
    Well this program is only a GUI and I can only add stuff produced by a command line tool, as far as I can see Jhead doesn't export those comments you're talking about. Let me know if you come across a cl with that as an export option. (I spend 10 hours on the Jhead import - and I have a strong feeling that this is a total overkill for a slideshow proggy). If you have a photo with comments into it a you can get jhead to read it - could you send me that photo?

    Hi tin2tin,

    I think I've found the tool you need, look here: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

    With this I have made a txt-file with the same name as the jpg including all exif or only the usercomment or what you want.

    I think with this it's easier.
    Let me know what you think.

  21. Exiftool is quite big(and slow) compared to Jhead. Just as a test I ran your photo through Jhead and it does show: "comment : Kommentar", so now I've added it to the gui.

  23. Check out this collection of free frame plugins which can be added to DsG through the templatefreeframe.avs in the 'PostEffects folder:
    http://freeframe.sourceforge.net/gallery.html

    @ alevon
    Take a look at filmstrip at this gallery and see if it does the same thing for you.

    Hi tin2tin,

    you did a great job. Thank You very very much.

    It works fine. Most of the errors I wrote you are with blank fields. Today all photos out of cameras has filled fields.

    The usercomment flag works fantastic.

    A great tool with quick and great support.

    Thanks for suggesting Paint.net. I liked it..

    By the way, can we use Shape3D.dll for animation? (Like we use zoom.dll)

    That would be magnificent..

    When I was examining Paint.NET, I looked at the plugins and found that Shape3D.dll..

    It is a cool plugin that has 3D functionalities. I played with it, has nice effect capabilities..

  28. Lol looks nice. Paint.Net plugins can't be accessed through avisynth...

    DVD slideshow GUI uses www.avisynth.org for all manipulation of video and audio. Access to ex. free frame plugins is gained through the Free Frame plugin for avisynth here: http://avisynth.org/warpenterprises/.

    If you want to add more effects to DsG here's how it can be done:

    From DVD slideshow GUI/Posteffects folder you can open 'Template_Freeframe.avs' in Notepad or great IDE for avisynth: AvsP.

    Code:
    #colorbars()
    LoadPlugin("freeframe.dll")
    converttorgb24()
    freeframe("PeteHalfTone.dll",false,0.236,0,0.402,0.276)#halftone
    converttoYV12()
    This is the avisynth script which adds a selectable Free Frame effect to DVD slideshow GUI called 'Template_Freeframe.avs'.

    Change the code to this:
    Code:
    colorbars()
    LoadPlugin("freeframe.dll")
    converttorgb24()
    freeframe("PeteHalfTone.dll",true)
    converttoYV12()
    And save it in the Posteffects folder with the .avs extension.

    Now open Mplayerc.exe(Media player classic) from the DVD slideshow GUI folder and drag and drop your new .avs file in Media player classic. It should now open a colorbar manipulated by by the free frame plugin. And also (and very important) open an interface to play around with the values of the plugin.

    In the bottom of that interface there is the avisynth command which will produce the current effect.

    ex.
    Code:
    Freeframe("PeteHalfTone.dll",false,0.52,0.386,0.504,0.268)
    Copy/paste this into the first script and remove this line:

    Code:
    freeframe("PeteHalfTone.dll",false,0.236,0,0.402,0.276)#halftone
    And make sure that there is a '#' before 'colorbars()'. Save it into Posteffects folder as .avs start up DsG and you will have a new effect to choose...

    You can find more Free Frame plugins here: http://freeframe.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

    Just add the dll's to the Posteffects folder and do as above, but change the 'PeteHalfTone.dll' into whatever plugin name you want to try.

    If you come up with something nice, please share...

  29. I've tried to get rid of the popups of the dos windows when importing images, could you help me to test if this runs on your computer? Just place this file in the main folder of the latest version of an installed DVD slideshow GUI - double click it - and see if it is possible to load images with some of the exif data(import more than filename as subtitle):

    [EDIT: REMOVED - IT WAS JUST A TEST ]

    I've tested it.
    It only shows the data from the jheadinfo.txt in all pictures. All pictures show the same subtitle. If I manualy change the data in the jheadinfo.txt, this data would be displayed the next time on all loaded images. The Time DSG spent to load the images with exifdata is the same as 0.76RC4 and there is no DOS window, but only the last data in the jheadinfo.txt is displayed.
