  1. Are there any TV capture programs for Windows XP? I have a Hauppage WinTV
PCI capture card and the only prog that I have found is uiVCR but when I
record with it the sound isn't recorded. Thanx in advance!

  2. So I'm not the only one

I’m trying to capture some video footage, using my winTV card
While playing the video I hear the sound fine
I have checked, double checked that my Line in is active, I have tried several capture
Programs, and each one I can’t hear the sound in the captured AVI file
Before I press the Capture button the sound plays fine in the preview, once pressed the sound mutes, then returns when I stop the capture.
The Audio WDM driver, does say that there is a problem with the device,
But I can still hear it through the onboard sound card.
I have tried different drivers, now back to original Hauppauge XP drivers.

Has anyone had any problems with
    1. Play AVI files with sound
    2. With the on board sound card
    3. The A7V266-E & WinTV PCI card

    Has anyone got any

Kinda a strange that there's no program that works in Windows XP... I've the NanoDVR (Hauppage version) and I can't even start it cuz it says something like "No License, Exiting" and something called Snapstream PVS but this one's some kind of network capture tool so I didn't work either. Someone should post programs that work in Windows XP and that are compatible with WinTV. Hope someone reads this that has experience with this issue.

I had a similar problem (albeit with an AIW 12

  5. I have one of those too, which I specifically got because it was on the HCL for XP. But the drivers a still pretty immature. One of the problems is that most capture programs don't record the audio, but the problem isn't with the capture programs.

If you run audio directly from your source to the line in port on your sound card it will record the audio. Why? because the stupid driver mutes the audio mixer on the tuner card when a capture is initialised.

There are 4 ways to work around the issue:
    1. There is a widget somewhere on this site that lets you manually unmute it after you start a capture, giving you sound for the rest of the clip but it's useless if you capture on a timer.

    2. Bypass the capture board's mixer, running svideo or composite to the capture card, and audio directly to the sound card. This makes the internal tuner useless.

    3. Use one of the capture programs that has an internal workaround for this issue. I know WinDVR does, Try the demo at http://www.intervideo.com. And I think Showshifter does as well. Neither are great capture apps, but at least they are an option.

    4. Use a different driver. Hauppage has a VFW driver that does work, they were using it to demo their products on XP at Comdex. Or use a 3rd party driver like btwincap. I had trouble getting the tuner to work with it though, so YMMV.

Here is the response I got from Hauppage when I emailed their support department:

Right now those drivers do not support capturing. We are working on ones that do or a fix for the current ones. We will have them as soon as possible.

WinDVR works, and it is stable, but their audio compressor is buggy. You'll probably need to re-encode your audio streams if you plan to make VCD's with it. But it's the only app I know of that works 100% under XP with this card and the current WDM drivers. If anyone knows of another one, I'm all ears.
