    I've been using the Windows encoder 9.0 to convert AVI files into WMV files, but now I find I can't use Windows Media Player 8.0 to play the WMV files. WMP 9.0 plays them without any problem. These WMV files are for a friends website, so I need to find out what I might be doing wrong or a work-around, so that site visitors can play the files with any windows player.

    Either go upgrade yourself to ver.9 here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp
    or grab a codec update pack from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

    Funny, but I don't see ver.8 there.
