Sounds like it's telling you that it thinks you are trying to install a MS DOS game on a NT based system (XP). Probably an error, unless it is indeed a MS DOS game. I would go to the games site and see if they have installation advice.

In general MS-DOS programs will not run on XP, but: Here's a link to a site that discusses your problem. http://www.the-underdogs.org/guidewin.php

I found it by doing a Google search for 'ms-dos games on XP'. There are other sites with info, also. First thing is to try 'compatibility mode' and set for W95 or W98. (Right click on the file and select properties. You should see a listing for compatibility.) You can try this, might work.

A friend of mine had a similar problem recently trying to install a cheap racing game for his children on an XP system.

The solution was to find the REPAIR folder in the Windows directory and copy the autoexec.nt file and the config.nt file to the SYSTEM32 folder, thus overwriting the versions in the SYSTEM32 folder.

This error seems to happen when the autoexec gets corrupted some way.

He tried it and the game installed and ran fine afer that.

Well, i replaced those 2 files, and i got it to get past the one error, but now on the initial load screen, i get an alert message:

    Alert: Error opening resource 10000.snd
    Use ENTER to retry
    ESC to quit

Any idea what this is, and what i have to do to get past this?? Thanks.

Further info on the error message:

Error 99: Error loading resource 10000.snd
    l:\sys\interps\restype.cpp(97)
    Script# 64989 ($fed6eeb8+)

    Thanks.
