I was archiving some music video mpegs to DVD disc, strictly as a data disc, no SVCD/DVD format to it. On a hunch, I put it into my DVD player to see what happened and lo and behold, it played them like mp3's. Very cool
, I thought. But when I tried to play the same disc in a friends (newer!) DVD player, it didn't recognize the data disc at all
. Now i'm starting up a VJ gig and just putting these mpegs straight on like this is great (200 vids per disc as opposed to 30 - 35). But if i'm going to shell out some $$$ for good DVD players for this, what should I look for on the box to know it can do this for me? Thanx all!

You need to look for MP3 format support. There's lots of cheap players out there offering it. I'm guessing you popped in a data disc full of mp3's into your dvd player. I doubt it would play wavs.

Actually I think he's looking for MPEGISO support, if I'm not mistaken.

If you are looking for a DVD that can play MPGISO's without any conversion, I would suggest getting the Philips DVP 642. It's very reasonably priced at $60-$70 and plays just about everything I feed it.

Fortunately, features like this don't come with the price tag - rather, often the opposite.

There is a logo on some players over here, it is a divx logo on a black backgroup. I have a pioneer dv-575a in my bedroom which can play them. The logo can be seen below on the left side of the player next to the dts and dd signs.Originally Posted by HonkyTonkBlues13

Or is it so that all DivX players play mpeg-iso's too?archiving some music video mpegs to DVD disc, strictly as a data disc

Good point Mr H, misread that one.
Mine plays divx's and xvid's will have to try mpeg iso's when I get back. -
I bought one of those too. Great player, excellent quality pic for the price and plays mpeg iso's too! You can even mic mpg and divx on the same disc and it plays them with no problems.Originally Posted by Hardcoreruss
