  1. Hi,

I bought a DVP642 recently, and I have the questions"
    1. The AVI from Digital Camera won't play, do you know what is the problem?

    2. Does it support Unicode text subtitle files? It seems not

    3. It does not support idx/sub subtitle, I cannot get it working.

    4. How can I get the the Chinese external subtitle working when I plays AVI files. It displays funny character during playback.

    Thanks

    1) There are certain requirements for DivX files. AVI is a container and may not necessarily use DivX. For example, you can have AVI files that use other compression codecs, such as Indio, and they won't work at all. DivX files can't use Quarter Pixel and there's something else they can't use, but I don't remember. The user's manual talks about it.
    2) it does NOT support Unicode!
    3) SRT subtitles work. I'm not a big DivX user and I have not been able to test sub/idx subtitles. I can only say that SRT does work. Some have reported that sub/idx doesn't work, but Philips claims it does.
    4) You can't fix this. Subtitles must either use Latin letters or Cyrillic. Chinese is not currently supported. The users manual describes what format the subtitles must be in. Cyrillic must be in ISO-8859-5 format, which is an old format nobody really uses any more.
