I hope NASA is successful with this jet. They have worked very hard.
I remember their first attempt to achieve hyper-bionic speed...........
:P

That reminds me of the engine they made YEARS ago called the "Turbine Prop"....not to be confused with the Turbo Prop.
The damn thing was SO fast (RPM's) that each blade tip of the prop went supersonic....I believe on each revolution too. It was so freaking loud that anyone who got near it either threw up or passed out. They explained the puking phenomenon not on the actual volume in decibels but the volume of air bombarding the body repeatedly....but the decibels just added to it's enjoyment... -
nice,,here is my plane I bought from Cappy
but you can make your own if you like

This piece of kit is awesome NASA have been working on this technology for around 40 years and just when it's starting to deliver, guess what, the X43A next test flight will be it's last. (NASA are diverting funds to the CEV, an Apollo type resusable capsule)
NASA, for FECKS SAKE WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of the people at NASA seriously need their bumps fealing for making this sort of descion (OK Prez Bush has had a say on this) but for a few poxy million dollars for a REAL spaceplane and 7000mph+, it really is a no brainer. Ditch the 60s technology, it'll cost billions anyway and go for a quantum leap in space travel.
just my rant
Cheers people -
That's an F-15 Eagle
One of the few fighters or interceptors whose thrust exceeds its weight, and it can fly straight up 8)
If I owned one, I'd never sell it. I can give you a great deal on an F-18 or a couple of F-16s that Tommyknocker conveniently sent to reclamation for his OT buddies to bid on -

The G-Force is pretty strong at those speeds. You could practically kill someone by pulling up hard for only a brief moment. And the sonic boom would be extremely loud.

My university is developing one in conjunction with the US/Australian military and NASA to put satellites into space.
I've heard they've had some problems getting it to carry the required payload though. -
Gyroscopes are extremely sensitive at those speeds. Take the front wheel off a bicycle and spin it with your hands holding the bolts. Tilt your hands to feel the movement of the gyrations. That wheel would be spinning at extremely high speeds to keep the ship on course. A light change at that speed can be the difference from hitting your target area or missing by 100 miles in a matter of a blinking moment.

THEY DID IT!
Sweet! They hit mach 10 for about 10 seconds

No rotating parts in the compression......might be able to use the technology to increase fuel efficiency and speed of current Jet planes.
