Need some details. Is it any good? I have not seen Mainconcept 2-pass, yet. How fast is it in comparison to others?

  2. I have tried it but didn't notice a great deal of improvement. I might attribute that to my monitor, the source material, etc. It took about 4 times the length of the clip to encode on my 2.2 GHz machine.

I noticed the new feature in my upgrade but would like to know from the experts out there what improvement the 2 pass encoding should provide.

    Any takers?

    Thanks,

One of the reasons I migrated to TMPEG is because of its 2-pass encoding. I was having trouble getting the Mainconcept encoder to accept strobe lights. It would give me terrible digital noise. I might be able to tweak the Mainconcept encoder now using the "advanced" trick on 2-pass. I don't mind frameserving to TMPEG, I just feel I would be doing better to use the encoder that is integrated with Mediastudio. It would complete me.

  4. I'll give it a try this weekend with some more "modern" content that was initially captured digitally.

What I tried it on was my current project...ready for this...an MPEG-2 encoding of a DV file converted from a VHS tape telecined from an 8mm home movie.
