Since you have a VOB or MPEG with AC3 (otherwise you wouldn't be askig the question), you need to use one of the tools listed in the Tools section to the left and demux the audio out of the combined stream. This'll give you a copy to work with.
Then, use BeSweet, or something similar, to convert the AC3 to PCM/WAV or MP2 audio. Either of these can then be re-merged with a video-only copy (also demuxed from the original) using the "Add" feature in QTPro. Then both audio and video could be played and/or exported.
QT has a quirk in that it can play muxed audio but can't export it. Something to do with the component/plugin structure (read a thread about it once). Supposedly, this could get fixed for good in QT7.

  2. This is where we are right now!
I figured that instead of working blindly i'll just ask the person who needs the conversion if they need it to be specifically .mov quicktime format or do they just need it to be able to be viewed by quicktime users. I also didn't buy the MPEG-2 component because I felt I didn't want to waste any money on something I was not sure was going to get me to do exactly what I wanted. Because I don't know what my customer exactly wants. So, right now i'm waiting for his reply and I also just learned that having 3ivx installed on my system I was able to view the .avi file I created with quicktime. And I uninstalled it to make sure I was not crazy and I ran into the same QT error so. Yes as of now i'm waiting, however, if he does tell me that he just needs it to be viewed by QT users i'll bundly in the 3ivx program for Windows users and as for MAC users i'll bundle in the ffmpegX program. So hopefully if he does state he just needs it viewed i'll boot up my linux and make a disc that will be able to be viewed on MAC/Windows Platforms! So lets just see what his answer is.
