    Firstly hello to all,

Right now the real reason I'm here..

I am currently using DVDit LE for creating my DVD's.. It's OK, but nothing special. But recently, I have started to see a recurring error which stops the software from building the DVD folder.

Sonic are trying to help with the problem but don't really no what is causing it.

So, my question is, is it worth persisting with DVDit, or is there a better, user friendly package that I should be using ..

    Cheers in advance

    Andy

Try Ulead Video Studio 8, has a lot of features for the price. Very few have any issues with it.

    Well.... what is the error?
They are there for a reason. Not to just piss you off. It's trying to tell you there is a problem, and what it is.

Have you searched the help files in DVDit! or the knowledge base at www.sonic.com (makers of the software) ??

That error may likely be your hard drive is full, or it is not NTFS.

More details on what you're doing, the source file specs, etc.

I am creating a DVD and have imported my own backgrounds and buttons etc..

I have set up a few pages, and have linked a few objects and then try to build the DVD folder.

It starts the build, and then returns the message, as stated.

The source files are all stills at this moment, and I am just setting it up to get a feel for how the DVD will look.

    They are mainly JEG files.

My file system is FAT32, but I have never had a problem with this in the past..

FAT32 has a 4GB limit on file size. It is probably attempting to create a file that exceeds this size limit.

You haven't filled in the computer details in your profile, so I'm guessing that you have XP. If so, try converting your file system to NTFS by going to the Run command and entering:

    convert c: /fs:ntfs

use this for drive c. Substitute the drive letter of the drive you're trying to create the files on if it's different.

This will change the file system to NTFS the next time you reboot.

NTFS has a much higher size limit and this should solve the error you're seeing.

If you are running Win98 or ME, then you're out of luck until you upgrade. NTFS won't work with these OS'es

    Thanks but it's not that.

I have been creating DVD folders from DVDit for about a year, and have always been using the FAT32 stsyem.

Also, FAT32 cannot handle one contigiuos file of 4gb, and as all the single files that make up my DVD are less than 100Mb, this should not cause a proble...

    Ideas?

That's true, but if the app uses temp HD space as a scratchfile, then it may have troubles. Have you changed those settings in the app recently?

Another possibility is that you are getting bad sectors on your HD. Have you recently run scandisk or chkdsk?

No, can't recall changing anything lately, although space is down to about 3.5Gb on my HD.

I use windows 2000 Prof, and generally any errors it picks up, but I will run scandisk anyhow..

If space is down to 3.5GB, that's probably the problem. You need more HD space than that, and the program sees you don't have enough.

I think I have just found the reason, and this guys thread makes sense.

Sounds like its a dodgy picture in my file. Everything else likes it, but not DVDit.

If you have a couple of minutes read this link, very amusing and exactly what is happening to me!!:

Sonic has VERY rigid rules. If your images are bnot perfect to DVD specs, expect rejection. This is a rule for video and audio files too. Look at specs in the help file. I learned a lot by simply reading the help file back in 2001, before sites like this existed.

    Cheers Guys,

Just had a quick play by re tracing my steps, and started to remove a couple of images from DVDit. Recompiled the build and guess what..

    worked fine.

Now just need to nail down exactly WHY it doesn't like the images..

Hate ambiguous error codes.. If sonic could have told me that straight away, then I could have had this sorted by now...

Well, thats what forums are for, thats where the experts really live!!!
