  1. (I apologize in advance for the rather long post)

Lately I'm having problems converting AVIs with TMPGenc (the problems coincide with installing the latest MS Service Pack for Windows XP but I really hope that's got nothing to do with it).

When I convert AVI with TMPGenc (version 2.59) the video either freezes entirely or most of the time sort of stutters (sorry, don't know how to word it any better - it's as if it's a bit too slow and the quicker things move in the video the more wobbly the picture gets) but the audio is in sync.

So I installed TMPGenc 2.521 today; however, when I wanted to start the conversion I was warned that the output file size would be almost 2000MB (should be 450MB) with a length of 90 mins (should be 42 mins). I converted a bit of it - the video quality was good but there was no audio.

After reading the 'how to' guides (thank you to everyone!) I created a WAV file with VirtualDub and also changed the priority of the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader in the VFAPI plug-in. Here are my results:

    1. DirectShow on priority 1, video and audio source AVI file
Audio okay, file size okay but video bad (stutters across screen)
    2. DirectShow on priority 1, audio source WAV file
After processing inverse telecine, audio okay, file size okay but video bad (stutters across screen)
    3. DirectShow on priority 2, video and audio source AVI file
makes file size almost 2000MB, 90 mins long, video okay but no audio
    4. DirectShow on priority 2, audio source WAV file
file size okay, audio okay, video better but still not 100%

Option #4 is the only one that somewhat works but the video still isn't what it should be; it's a little too slow and therefore the picture is wobbly. So my question is whether there's anything else I could try? Did I miss something?

PS: the AVI files are not corrupted, btw. AviCodec tells me that I have all necessary codecs installed and I can watch the files in excellent quality on my PC. However, only with VLC, not with Windows Media Player or any other.
