  1. Hi all,

Firstly I’d like to congratulate on such a great resource, we’ve referenced it a number of times in the past year and it’s proved very handy. Although what a lot of content on the homepage, I get quite lost sometimes!?!

Okay I hope this is the correct forum, it seemed the most appropriate –

I’ve got an issue with Premiere (Nothing really changes eh!) – to be honest I’ve basically given up with it now but thought I’d include it within this post and see if anyone’s had a similar problem, I’m aware a few have as I’ve found a post here or there (Not on this site…yet!) but haven’t found any solutions to date. Premiere has randomly started playing up when exporting to the Pinnacle MPEG-2 format, it chucks up a ‘System could not be initialised’ error as soon as the export attempts to start. This happened for the first time a few weeks back, I managed to get it working at the time – I believe by merely logging in as an administrator rather than a standard user, although doing that no longer solves the problem. After trying new drivers, old drivers, un-installing and reinstalling both Premiere and the Pinnacle software, as the system was due a reinstall anyway that’s what I did, still the same issue?!? Has anyone had similar and managed to sort it?

Due to lack of a solution to the above we’ve recently purchased TMPGnc DVD Source Creator and are now using that to create MPEG-2’s from Premiere exported Pinnacle .avi’s, I must say I’m very impressed with the quality although it is less than that which we used to get from Pinnacles codec – we edit directly from original rendered file sequences to export the highest quality possible i.e. would rather export from Premiere directly to MPEG-2 without the .avi middleman.

So, to the second question (Apologies for the excessively long post), can any of you possibly recommend / point me towards options of professional quality MPEG-2 codec’s? These allowing for exporting from any package i.e. we really are after a codec rather than a converter – although a converter that could build an MPEG-2 stream from an image sequence would be heading in the right direction i.e. rather than importing a .avi one imports an image sequence.

Many thanks if you’ve made it this far & thanks in advance for any assistance.

I would suggest frame serving out of Premiere to Canopus procoder or CCE basic
