  1. I see that SurCode is selling this for only $99, and it claims to produce a 6-channel DTS surround .wav file (44.1khz) for use in burning audio cd's. The DVD version does the exact same thing, but at 48khz also, and costs $499.

    My question is this: if the output of the program is a standard .wav file, couldn't you simply re-sample it to 48khz? Or would that kill the DTS encoding?

    More importantly-- why not simply create a non-standard DVD with 44.1khz audio?

    This certainly seems to be a cheap way to create digital surround sound...but somehow also seems too good to be true...

    You can't simply upsample because you will lose the encoding. Non-standard (read non-compliant) DVDs are a possibility, however you have no guarantees that it will play in most players.

    the output is not a standard wav file , its a digital file with a wav header ..... if you play it on a system that doesnt do dts decoding , you will hear some nasty sh*t ....

    no -- not pink noise... it has a square wave component - its digital noise , not random like band pass filtered pink noise ..

    a simple idea to use the dtswav for your projects
    you need:
    AVI file
    DTSWAV
    AVImuxGUI/VirtualDubMod
    a DIVX compatible player (-> ~ EUR 70)

    simply mux your AVI with this DTSWAV but beware of the over all steam, some player canīt be feed with streams (video + audio) over 2000kbs
    I did some testings with the KISS 450 - no problem at all even above 2000kbs

    bye Daphy
