  1. Hi!
I'm intending to transfer all my concert VHS tapes to DVD.
I'm going to borrow a DVD-recorder. I have several options.
I don't have any doubts that the picture quality will be well-preserved once transfered to DVD. However, I have some doubts when it comes to sound. Many of my tapes are recorded in mono sound. By recording to DVD-R it will be automatically converted to "stereo". Does anyone have any experience with this and what do you think about sound quality? Will it simply remain the same (just mono sound put on two channels) or will it become a bit hissy ?

    Thanks in advance!

It will be 2 channel mono audio.

It should sound about the same it sounds now but it ain't gonna sound any better.

If you will be using a mono VCR you will need a Y adapter to convert the single mono out to "stereo" in on the stand alone DVD recorder.

  3. I will be using stereo VCR, cause I have few stereo VHS tapes, and those I want, of course, to remain in stereo.

Okay, so it should be 2 channel mono audio.
But, officially, when playing a DVD like this, will it still state sound info as "stereo"?

Probably. It doesn't know the difference between true stereo and mono that's appearing on both channels.

You might be able to select mono input somewhere on your DVD recorder. I recommend this for mono sources. I've had some noise issues when capturing to stereo.

  5. another idea.
when I do this i usually run the audio through an EQ, that makes the dvd audio much better with source tapes like fan shot concerts!!
