  1. First, I apologize if I missed this info while searching!

I am a COMPLETE newbie to this, and was just wondering if this is even possible:

OK, I've now edited a few 20-30 minutes clips with Premier 6.0. Now I want to "archive" these to CDR, but would like to save as DVD quality for the day I can step up to an actual DVD recorder. Is this possible? If so, what settings do I use through Premier for export to file? Can I then burn straight to CDR w/ EZ-CD 5.0 Plat. ed.? Would these be viewable through most DVD players if shared with family?

All advice is greatly appreciated in advance, thanks!

Well, there really is no single correct answer. You could archive the video clips as DVD-compliant MPEG2 files onto regular "data" CDs... these would just have one or two .MPG files on it. These could only be played in PCs that have an MPEG-2 codec installed.

You could also create high-bitrate SVCDs. These could be played on some DVD players, and PCs with appropriate software installed.

CDRs are dirt cheap. I'd recommend archiving DVD-compliant MPEG2 files on CDR and put them away for the time when you'll be able to burn DVDs. For viewing them now, I'd burn a set of VCDs. These will play on most PCs, and many DVD players.

However if you know which DVD players these discs will be played on, check to make sure that the players can handle CDR media. Some DVD players choke on CDR media, but can handle CDRW media just fine.

I'm sure others more knowledgeable will jump in with their suggestions, but this should at least get you started.
