I have found after many hours work that my problem as first reported below in green, only happens when the hard drive is on the secondary IDE Slave channel, secondary master is OK, and primary slave is OK. (cannot try primary master as there is no OS on this disk). In my old Chaintec motherboard it did not matter where the drive was put, it played a DV file OK. I wonder if I have a fault on the secondary slave IDE port as I would have expected it to work.

    Any idea's anyone.

I have just built a new computer to use for video work as my existing computer is used for everything, and will now do everything except video. The old computer works great on all my video requirements and the new one is a slightly higher spec built with the ASUS A7V600-X motherboard, AMD 2400. All went well untill I played a DV codec file from the second hard drive ( was in the old computer ). When asked to play a DV file Windows Media Player is very slow to open then will freeze , play a few frames then freeze etc. I used "AVI CODEC" to check that I had not missed anything and it says it is OK, I then swapped the memory between the two computers, just the same. If I run TASK MANAGER while playing a file the CPU is running between 0 and 98, on the old machine it runs between 0 and 25. All the software is the same on both computers.
    Have I missed something ?

    I perceive that you have:
    1. Moved your hardware to a new Motherboard

    2. Used the existing OS without a clean install

Actually, I am not sure how your hardware is configured. Your Computer Details/Setup: indicates your old hardware.

Check to see if the Secondary Slave channel is running UDMA mode.

Right click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Secondary IDE Channel >Advanced Settings Tab
