Quick question for ya all: I've been backing up tons of movies this past year and up to now, 4x is all that I've been concerned with since that was the rated speed of the media I was using. However is just bought some new 8x TY02 printable DVD-R's and am curious about how to take advantage of the speed?? They take just as long to burn as my 4x media. I've tried burning using Nero and Record Now. With Nero, the highest setting that I can select is 4x and with Record Now, I can't find a setting to increase the speed.

The bottom line is how the heck do I get my software to recognize and take advantage of the 8x? I just downloaded a demo version of the newest version of Nero, and it too will only allow me to set it as high as 4x. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!!

You may need a firmware update for your burner.

Is your burner capable of anything faster than 4x?

I knew, after i posted the question, I should have mentioned that my burner is capable of 8x. I'm not that much in the dark

However, a firmware upgrade? Why would it need that if it is rated at 8x anyway. DVDINFOPRO shows that the speed of the player is spec'd at 8x (if that means anything).

A question that would be helpful for me to understand - should Nero detect that I have an 8x drive and then give me the option for burning at that speed? Does it appear that Nero just isn't recognizing that I have an 8x drive? I'm just trying to determine if this is a software problem or a hardware problem. Then I can better focus in on what I need to do (which I really don't know, but at least that will help)

The firmware upgrade is needed to insure proper compatability with certain discs.
