When using DVD Shrink 3.1 the encoding process will often take 2 hours plus to encode an 80 minute DVD. Why does this happen? Can I speed the process up ? Any help would be appreciated.

A faster, tuned up PC never hurts.

Along with what sacajaweeda said; If you had filled out your computer details, we would know about the system you are using and it would be possible to give you further advice.
EDIT: denis , I just did a movie on a 2.2Ghz Atlhlon, 256MB memory, 1.5hr DVD. Took 26minutes from the time I put in the DVD until the copy popped out of the 4X burner. (Default Reauthor, no extras) -
I said faster and tuned up cuz I'm experiencing a bit of a telepathy block with this thing on my head and his PC details aren't coming thru at the moment. I don't know if his machine is from 1997 or if it's just totally ****-knackered and config'd all wrong.

I had a friend with a one year old Dell Dimension 2400 with 128 MB of RAM running XP home (2.2 Celeron if memory serves). Her kids had installed so many games that it took over 10 minutes to boot, and about 15 to connect to AOL (okay, admittedly not the most computer savvy friend).

If you're running DVDShrink directly against the DVD in your DVD-ROM drive, make sure the drive is in DMA mode. If it's in PIO mode it'll slow down DVDShrink enormously. If you're ripping from a burner, see if it's speed locked to 2X on CSS disks.
Technically, those two suggestions fall into the category of PC tuning, but they'll give you someplace to start. -
Check these settings. On my pc it takes about 30 min without these check and 2½ hours with both checked. Depends on the quality you want.
