  1. Hello guys, I'm a newbie with dvd burning. I just bought a dvd burner (Pioneer 108 OEM version with firmware 1.14). Everytime I try to burn something to a 4x dvd+r at 2.4x with nero, it takes a long time to finish. To be exact it took me about 40-44 minutes, so I was wondering if there is a problem with the software or my dvd burner. By the 22nd minute it says there is 00:00:00 remaining time however in the bottom with the greenhighlights it says it's 51%complete and I have to wait another 20+minutes or so to be able to take the dvd+r out. If you guys can help me out, I would greatll appreciate it. Thanks.

    Also I would like to note that the buffer at the bottom goes up and down consistently. Specifically, it stays from 89-98% for 20-30 seconds or so, the it goes all the way down to 20-30% for about 10-15 seconds. I tries burning it with clone dvd and it also too 40-45 minutes.

  2. 2.4 is for dual layer discs I think, try 2X or 4X instead.

  3. Well, it's a RICOHJPN01 media code and nero only allows me to burn at 2.4x or 4x. I tried both and 4x took longer than 2.4 x and more static used buffer.

    Your used buffer status should be pretty consistent through the burning process. If it's fluctuating from high to low usage, check to see which mode your EIDE is in. Sounds like it's in PIO mode. Change it to DMA if available. This should speed up your burn times as well.

  5. my dvd burner is in the secondary ide channel as a master and my cd burner as a slave. Device 0 is in "ultra dma mode 4" and device 1 is in "ultra device mode 2."

    My primary channel is in pio mode for device 1 and "ultra dma mode 5" for device 0.

    Really weird cause when I burn a cd with my dvd burner the timing was perfect. I didn't want to burn it with my cd burner cause it only allows me to write at 48x and no lower and that's also another weirs thing. The cd burner came with it when I bought this computer (refurbished).

    DMA--->DMA

    not

    PIO--->DMA

    That's the plan. Cuz PIO is slow as shit, CPU intensive and sucks major balls.

  7. well that's the thing it wouldn't let me change it to dma mode. If the pio mode is set in the primary channel, then how can it affect my dvd burner which is in the secondary channel and when both devices are un dma mode?

  8. Well, it seems that the problem is with one of my hard disk drive, which I believe is in the pio mode. So if anybody is an expert in this field, can you guys please give me instructions on how to change it to dma mode.

  9. I don't know how to change the mode, but you can check mode by opening Nero, click on extras, get system info, then configuration. That will tell you how everything is set up.

    delete the ide where your burner is.....reboot the pc....windows should reinstall the ide drivers correctly.

    Yes,
    I recently had similar ocasion.
    Had to delete the affected IDE channel in the Hardware Device Manager.
    On restart everything is Plug and Play and the drivers installed and retrieved the DMA mode. As simple as that.
    Also make sure when recording you haven't checked the Verify box - itwill take double time to verify the data.
    Have in mind x2 speed takes about 40 min anyway.

  12. Thanks for the link.

    Am I deleting the the secondary ide channel, where my burner is or am I deleting my primary channel where the problem is the hard disk drive which is set in pio mode?

    Also If I'm deleting it , do I lose all my saved files?

    Your files will be fine - you are deleting the drivers for the IDE channel, nothing more. Windows will pick up the IDE channel with PnP and you should be able to continue as normal.

    Of coarse you have to work on the problem channel (the one stuck in PIO mode).
