Trouble with MPEG playback

I'm having a problem with playing mpeg files. they play fine, the problem is when I try to move to a different part of the video with the bar at the bottom of the player. When I do this the video freezes but the audio keeps playing. It happens only with mpegs, avis and wmvs play fine. I tried using different video players but had no luck as the same thing keeps happening. The only thing I can think is that I installed some mpeg converting software programs the other day and maybe thats where the problem came from. I uninstalled all of those programs but still have the problem.

This board has been of great help just from viewing others posts in the past. I hope someone can help me figure out what is wrong. Thanks in advance.

So, what players have you tried, and what kind of mpegs are they?

I've tried Windows Media Player, Zoom Player, and another one that I don't know the name of. This happens with all mpegs that I try to play.

Well, WMP is the worst you could try for anything, so put that to the side. I'd recommend MediaPlayer Classig - it's really a reliable work horse, or, for mpeg files, some software DVD Player like PowerDVD or WinDVD.

Have the mpeg2's been demuxed into seperate video and audio streams? Or is it a program stream?
