    What would be your best recommendation for a good codec to be able to read mkv file ?

  2. MKV is not a codec, it is a container, much like avi and ogm are. The file can contain several different possible codecs: xvid, divx, rmvb, aac, ogg, mp3, etc. You must have the appropiate codec installed and the mkv splitter.
    You can either get the splitter alone, or the matroska pack from here: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html

    i try to know it using avicodec but it was not able to give me the information
