  1. I'm sure I have set a record for ruining DVD blanks. No matter what I do, every DVD I create starts stuttering somewhere between 5 minutes and 1 hour in - then invariably locks up on a single frame.
It is happening across the board for all media I use ( have tried many brands ) or which application I use to burn them. I am currently using my registered copy of copytodvd, but have tried many others as well.
I have 2 DVD players and the stutter, etc is identical on both of them.
It happens whether I create an ISO or file.
I have viewed the VOB files on my computer and they are perfect - no stutter.
All non necessary services on XP are turned off and I am not running a screen saver. No power management.
Machine is an AMD 1GHZ Tbird with 512MB RAM.
I figure it must be my hardware, since the VOBs are fine, but I'm using a Sony DRU-700A.
At my wit's end and have been trying to make this work for months. Nothing I do or try changes the result. Any help or guidence would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

    What format (-R or +R) ?
Have you checked you players in the player list to see if others have similar problems ?

It sounds like a format compatability issue, although it could also be a media problem (less likely if you have tried other brands)

Have you tried using a different media, doesn't have to be a different format. Just try a different brand.

The problem is bad media ,but first defrag hard drive then try it again, and finally you might want to try dvd decrypter and dvd shrink which you can get them both here free.

Given that it happens using a few different softwares, using a couple of different methods, we're pretty much left with perhaps your players or your burner doesn't like your media. This can be a two-way street - your burner might be cactus (irregardless of what media you use), or it is fine but it doesn't get along with this particular brand you are using. If you have any more of this media, try creating an ISO and using DVDDecrypter to burn (this seems to be the most trouble-free method for most people), but lower your burning speed. Even if it means burning on 1X or 2X. Barring that, try different media, or, if possible, try the burnt discs in someone else's player. Also try the burnt discs in your computer (play the burnt disc).
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Thank you all for your input.

I checked and I do need to defrag.
    I will try a burn using 1X.
I have been using strictly dvd -r format, which I know will play in my dvd players (friend's -r disks play fine).
I have used dvddecrypter in the past and still had this problem, that's why I purchased copytodvd. I will decrypter again to burn at 1X tonight.

I'll post back here tomorrow with results. Once again, thanks to all for your kind responses. I'm off to defrag now! -=gu=-

As I stated in my earlier post, it may not be the format (-R) that you are using. You might have to try a different brand of -R.

  9. So you tried all sorts of media? But did you try to match the right media to your writer?

  10. I successfully was able to make a copy overnight after defragging and running at 1X. Checked it this morning on my dvd player before leaving for work. It's perfect I believe because I was able to advance chapter by chapter through the end of the disk. I used the same media as before. I think that running defrag was the deciding factor, because I have tried burning at 1x in the past.
Thanks to all of your for your help. What a great forum. You guys ROCK!

  12. Same media I've been using. Over the past few months I've borrowed and bought different media, all with the same result - stuttering across the board. After defragging (and burning at 1X) this one is perfect.
