  1. I have been using virtualdub and TMPEG to convert my VHS captures to DVD's. I am quite happy with it except that it takes a bit too long on my P3 machine.

Last week, I wanted to try Aviscript (using avisynth 2.54) with TMPEG to boost up the speed a bit. I have succeeded with it, but , suddely I realsied one funny problem.

When I load the multisegemeted avi (captured with Virtualdub), in Virtualdub, it showed a total duration of 2 hrs. and 27 minutes. But when I loaded the same into aviscript, it showed only 2 hrs. and 20 minutes in the preview window. What happend to the 7 minutes of the clip in aviscipt?

I tried one more thing. I generated the avs file with aviscript and then loaded it into visrtualdub. This time it is only 2 hrs and 20 minutes in Virtualdub as well. I am totally perplexed!!!

    Can some one help please?

Did you make sure the frame rate stayed the same?

  3. Yes, I checked the frame rate, but this is how I checked.

I do not know how to check the frame rate in aviscript. So, I checked the framerate under 'Video' in virtualdub for the original video as well as the avs file. Both showed 25 (I am using PAL).

Is there anything esle that I should be looking at?

    Thanks any way.

Well, some apps use the audio for duration. Others use Video. I always ignore the duration, and just make sure I have synch when I encode.

  5. Hi,

I just realised the problem. One of the files of the segmented AVI, Capture.04 had a bad frame 0 (I found this out when I loaded the segments one by one in a test avs script, and got the error message 'cannot decompress frame 0).

Is it a bug in it that aviscript, when comes across a bad segment, just ignores it, loads all other segments and doesn't even give an error message?
