I'm in the process of getting digital cable and I would like to replace my VCR with a DVR or recordable DVD.

What is a good cheap alternative to a VCR.?

I already have three computers. Two have DVD burners and one has an ATi TV Wonder card. So I'm looking more for an component solution and not a PC solution.

I would like to record shows on a DVR or recordable DVD and then move the files to my PC and edit out the ads using VirtualDub/Tmpgenc encoder/Tmpenc DVD Author.
