    Hoping somebody can help:
I've noticed a range of problems recently with my computer, both related to making home movies and beyond (eg. webcam not working).
I think the problem is with DirectX. When I run dxdiag from the RUN prompt it cannot detect a version of DirectX, plus it says a number of .dll files are missing.
Having found all those files on the net I tried adding them to SYSTEM32 folder, which dxdiag now recognise but say they're old versions so might still cause a problem. Plus it still won't identify directX is present.
I've also tried reinstalling directx 8.1 and 9 and both say installation compete and working but dxdiag still says different and the problems are still there.

I've searched high and low for a solution, really help somebody can help here.

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

    Hello,

You probably don't want to hear this but a complete reformat of the harddrive would be the easiest option.

I had problems with direct x awhile back but a reformat took care of it

If you do do it backup up EVERYTHING and then give it a go.

    Good luck.
