I remember that. It was done on Saturday Night Live (the real one ) in 1978, IMSC. Lorne Michaels offered the Beatles $3,000 I think it was, for them to get together again and appear on SNL. He said they didn't even have to give Ringo an equal cut if they didn't want to

    LOL
He was very generous in his offer! Couldn't find change in his pocket or something?
Probably what he found under his couch cushions

If I was offered $1 Bill. to reunite, I would even if I sucked. Damn, in a 4 way split, I got $250 Mill. reasons to do it. It'd be nice to have the house paid off and my son's college taken care of.

I remember that song "Something's goin' on", I think it got quite a bit of airplay back then, though I don't recall hearing it anytime lately. Russ Ballard, isn't he the guy that did the song "Voices" back in the heyday of MTV? "Voices, I hear voices...don't look back, look straight ahead, don't turn away the voices said..." (or something like that). It was a pretty good song, though it didn't get a whole lot of airplay.

If that's the same Russ Ballard, he was a real one hit wonder, I don't remember ever hearing anything else by him. I remember Mark Goodman (MTV VJ) commenting how wierd the video was. IIRC, there was a guy in a field or out in the open being chased by an airplane in part of the video. I only saw it a couple of times so my memory is a little weak on the outcome. Anyone else remember this video?

I wasn't sure, since you couldn't see their faces when they showed the closeups, only teeth and mouths. Makes me think even more that Agnetha was the better looking one.

"One of us" is a very good song, Agnetha looks great in that video. Another I'd add to that would be "When all is said and done", one of my favorites. And even "Ring, Ring" was pretty good, one of their early songs.

I have a Japanese documentary (subbed) called "The ABBA story" that I haven't even watched yet, except the first few minutes, that looks interesting. I'm sure there were many more that ABBA collectors have that might be very scarce now.

After doing some checking, seems that Agnetha is the youngest of the bunch (54 y.o), by several years (no wonder she looked better!).

    Agnetha = birthdate: April 5, 1950
    Anni-frid = birthdate: November 15, 1945
    Bjorn = birthdate: April 25, 1945
    Benny = birthdate: December 16, 1946

    Info from Abbasite.

Anyway, they probably have more money than they know what to do with and have no reason to get back together. I seem to recall they were the largest corporation in Sweden at their peak.

And I believe the guy that owns IKEA is the richest person in the world today, surpassing even Bill Gates. Haven't checked to see if that's true or not, but seems if you live in Sweden, you should use a 4-letter acronym and you'll be filthy rich (maybe Baldrick should rename this site VHCM and make billions? ).

    Yes...same guy
He is more of a songwriter and session player for many artists.
He wrote a few songs for Roger Daltrey, Kiss, America, Santana, Argent, Three Dog Night, Night Ranger, The Zombies, Rainbow, etc

Even wrote some songs for Agnetha Faltskog and Frida.

He's the one who wrote Something Goin' On

Not a big name as a singer, but he's been around a long time behind the scenes.

I really liked the second single, Two Silhouettes, from the same album Voices was on. Wasn't a hit but could've been one if it had more airplay back then. There was a video for that one also.

I was looking through some pics of ABBA, and noticed both Agnetha and Frida had much work done on their teeth over the years

I'll post a couple before and after shots in a bit.

didnt even make the top 10 list , only 3 in top 100 from Sweden are:

    Ingvar Kamprad, Sweden (IKEA Owner)
    Net Worth: $18.5 billion
    Rank: 13

40 Stefan Persson 6.7 billion Sweden
92 Antonia Johnson 3.6 billion Sweden

Bill Gates is still number one @ 46 billion , but Warren is fast closing in ..

Here is a scary thought, when Sam Walton died , they split up his wealth to the kids and wife.... they are now worth between $17-21 billion EACH , which means if Same were still alive, he would worth 3 TIMES as much as Bill Gates ...

Wow, that guy really got around, for someone that is hardly known. If he wrote stuff for the Zombies (Rod Argent's old group, right?) he must have been doing stuff going back to the 1960's. I don't recall seeing his name on any records I had, although I wasn't really looking for it. Usually I'd at least notice the songwriter's names on the LP's.

Wonder why he decided to actually start singing his own songs, and why he didn't do much? I thought "Voices" was a really good song, unusual sounding and different. It vanished almost as soon as it appeared.

Never heard that one. Since MTV was the only way back then that you would hear new music, if they didn't play it much, it wasn't gonna be very well known. Just like Sandy Stewart's "Cat Dancer" LP, in which she had a really strong single "Saddest Victory" - I bought the 45 PS and still have it today - it sank because of lack of airplay. The video was shown on MTV only a couple of times. I taped it back then on VHS and watch it occasionally, but I know it would never be seen again if I hadn't copied it at the time. I guess a lot of good artists get lost this way.

IKEA founder overtakes Gates as world's richest

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Ingvar Kamprad, the Swede who founded furniture retail chain IKEA, has overtaken Microsoft's Bill Gates as the world's richest man, Swedish TV news reported on Sunday.

Citing next week's edition of the Swedish business weekly Veckans Affarer, public service SVT2 television said Kamprad, 77, has a personal fortune of 400 billion crowns ($53 billion).

Gates's fortune is put at $47 billion, according to the latest list of the world's rich in U.S. Forbes magazine, SVT2 said.

Kamprad, known for frugal habits such as flying economy class, lives in Switzerland and no longer takes part in the daily running of IKEA, but has kept ownership of the company with more than 180 stores in over 30 countries in the family.

SVT2 said the dollar's slide against other currencies is the main reason why Kamprad has now overtaken Gates.

i do know you didnt read the retraction of that news article as a big mistake .. he doesnt even own IKEA anymore in fact....

Update: IKEA has denied the report above, saying that it mistakes Kamprad's fortune for the value of the company, which Kamprad no longer owns. It's more likely his fortune is around $18 billion which, no matter how you slice it, still adds up to an awful lot of Billy bookshelves
    .

The IKEA group is owned by a Dutch foundation, Stichting Ingka Foundation but all management services and the headquarters of the IKEA Group are provided by IKEA International in Humlebaek, Denmark. However, the product range is controlled entirely by IKEA Sweden, thus giving the impression of a Swedish company, and the branding of products "IKEA, country of Sweden".

but in reality - almost all IKEA goods are made in Poland, Slovakia, Russia, Romania, and Bulgaria. - but branded "made in sweden" because of a loophole in sweden.

Yea, he started out as lead guitarist of the British group, The Roulettes.

He later joined up with Rod Argent and was a member of his band.

Some of his more popular songs are:

Liar (done by Three Dog Night)
Nowhere To Run (done by Santana)
    I Surrender (done by Rainbow)
Since You Been Gone (done by Rainbow)
You Can Do Magic (done by America)
Free Me (done by Roger Daltrey)

    ...just to name a few

Never heard that one. Since MTV was the only way back then that you would hear new music, if they didn't play it much, it wasn't gonna be very well known. Just like Sandy Stewart's "Cat Dancer" LP, in which she had a really strong single "Saddest Victory" - I bought the 45 PS and still have it today - it sank because of lack of airplay. The video was shown on MTV only a couple of times. I taped it back then on VHS and watch it occasionally, but I know it would never be seen again if I hadn't copied it at the time. I guess a lot of good artists get lost this way.
Yea...one of the reasons I was always recording MTV in those days.

I happened to catch the Sandy Stewart video at the time.

The song she did with Stevie Nicks, I pretend, could've been a hit as well.

Stevie recorded some of her other songs - Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind and Seven Wonders (which is on Fleetwood Mac's Tango In The Night album.

@hech54 - that pic is too much
